And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

OK, I lied. Here is the best version. It's a live version. I love these guys. They are kind of like the Beatles of Thailand or something. They were so big:

I love the instrumentation. Thai R&B!

So what's making that lovely flute part? The keyboard? They don't show anybody playing anything resembling a flute of any kind.

Bummer, you're right. No one's playing the flute in that YouTube. TBut they play a bamboo flute for real. I've seen them twice in concert. I know how to explain it: That's definately the albulm version of the song played overtop of a live performance. These guys are awesome. The video must be at least 23 years old, because that was the iconic Hmong shirt the lead singer was wearing way back then.

This is such a trip. I was a huge fan. I never thought I would "see" these guys again. Now I've found concerts with songs they did after I left Thailand AND a "recent" (2007)interview. They are still around and active.

I just looked them up on Wikipedia, they have been around in various incarnations for 25 years! The above was their biggest hit. They have 60 albums now!!! Alot of it is very political, including the song above. "Made in Thailand" is song in which Carabou tells the fans, (this was 20 some years ago) look you have all this great stuff "Made in Thailand" and the foreigners love it and are envious of Thai products, but you don't see it and take pride in it. So you buy imports. They're not fooling you, you're fooling yourselves.

They are very eclectic but you can hear the Thai style weaved in with other styles.

I can understand how you must feel. My dad has been looking for years for an old Nat King Cole song based on Rimsky-Korsakov that he fell in love with when he first came to this country and someone finally found it for him. He said it made his whole YEAR.

TnT has been very good for me, musically. I'd never heard of Toad the Wet Sprocket before or Keane or so many others, and now this one. I've been exposed to a whole bunch of new stuff, some of which I really love. :)

Music is such a great trigger for memory. Nothing takes me back to my year in England like going to YouTube and plugging in "Madness: Baggy Trousers" or "Ultravox: Vienna." It's like working a shift at the pub all over again. :)

I think you do understand. :) Imagine, that 25 years from now, you discover that the Enterprise cast got together to do several more episodes. ;)

If you are seriously interested, I could track down that album for you and post a link. I'm finding lots of possibly illegal downloads.

OH, and the lyrics of "Made in Thailand" Translated!!!! (But I gave the correct summary already ;))

I'm SO excited that you reminded me of these guys!!!

Nearly 23 years ago, in the spring of '86, my family took a very ambitious trip through Asia: while there, we picked up a cool "new album" by the Thai sensation Carabou (it was being played everywhere).

We loved that tape, and eventually played it to death... but seriously, I haven't thought about those guys in at least 15, maybe 20 years! How cool... How catchy... How nostalgic...

Thanks JT ;)
