Re: The Weather Channel
Well yea, but pints have sorta moved from a measurement to a cultural norm, if you get my meaning. We could move onto litres, but pints just has a certain fondness to it.

Re: The Weather Channel
Of course. But miles and feet and inches and quarts and gallons and degrees Fahrenheit and such also have fond meaning and familiarity for Americans...if perhaps not the utter social primacy that pints have for the British.
I still think we should switch. There's such a thing as moving on and embracing the future. Most of the world has embraced English, making it incredibly easy on us. The least we can do is embrace the metric system. It might also help us get more kids into science, since one of the most tedious and off-putting parts of science education in this country is getting kids to make all those conversions and then work in units they find utterly unfamiliar.
But I wouldn't suggest this right at the moment. Who can afford to retool everything right now? Unless this is part of our grand economic stimulus package.

Hey, I thought this new guy was all about change?
I think if Obama was asked if you guys could switch to metric, he'd reply, "Yes we can."
Just a guess.

Re: The Weather Channel
Some homeless chick died of exposure 3 days ago like right here outside on the pier.
Well like she was drunk so yeah that would explain it but still. Someone freezing to death here
and she was only like 28, she totally looked like a grandma though I was kinda shocked to hear she was so young

Re: The Weather Channel
^^ That's a sad story.
Okay, for some reason we've gotten more than a whole year's worth of snow in the last few days.
It looks like Narnia here....all the trees are getting totally coated in snow that sticks and builds up and then freezes. Lots of branches are breaking, and everything looks like it's been sprayed with soapsuds.

I feel like a real live Canadian with a view like this!
The (friendly neighbour's) plow comes only partway up our street and so we're snowed in (and so don't have to go to the in-laws tonight!!)
We're all holed up on our giant crazy-ass mountain and the heat pump doesn't like the low temp (s'not supposed to GET like this!) and so we're huddled round our fireplace to keep warm like Laura Ingalls Wilder (or Elessar)
(or CX)
(or T'Poptarts
)

Re: The Weather Channel
These images are awesome, EK!

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

That chick died because the lifeguards took all her blankets away. WTF

Re: The Weather Channel
Geez...
BIG winds coming.
This always bad for Shoreline because of all our huge old conifers.

BIG winds coming.

It's flavored with passionfruit
an appropriate ingredient, don't you think?
