Hey! Weird! It just started snowing outside. It's been beautiful for weeks. February is usually like spring here.

Well, a local truism is: "If you don't like the weather here, just wait five minutes."

It's quite an accurate sentiment. :D

Makes me laugh at Elessar and CX and the rest o' ya Americans who like to laugh at cold, cold Canada. I'm walkin' round in T-shirts in Febraury. Bet old "Icestorm" CX and Elessar Ingalls Wilder can't say the same, can they?

NOW who's Canadian? :guffaw:

(sorry)

On the other hand, ask any of the kids on the street what they'd give to get to play with snow... I had to buy a darn plainticket to get all frozen up there.

kids in my town feel nearly the same way....it snows a few inches maybe once or twice in the year and melts directly away. Such a TEASE when you're little and all you want is a snowday off from school.

Snow men here weigh about 600 pounds and are lumpy and covered with sod and mud, the snow is so wet and sticky and heavy (for the five minutes that it lasts).

Course THIS year we were stranded in our home for a couple of weeks which was cool.

And you really get stranded here with any accumulation at all, since we have few plows and the hardware store sells its 3 snowshovels to the first 3 customers and then the rest of us just use cardboard or brooms or what have you for a few days till it's gone. And we drive like complete mental losers the second there's 1/2 a centimetre on the roads cause most people only get to practice snow driving a couple of times a year and so they're terrified and they suck. And everyone here's old too. We have more old people than anywhere else in the damn country. (Gay people too, for some reason, which is odd.) They say it's the land of the newly-wed and the nearly-dead.

And we all have bald summer tires for the same "it-rarely-snows" reason, so there are sliding cars and abandoned cars everywhere and there's only 3 inches of white stuff on the ground. It's actually quite hilarious. It happens a couple of days a year without fail. Total societal shutdown over less than 6 inches of snow. You'd think we'd figure it out. But we don't.

My area's the balmiest spot in Canada and all the other Canadians laugh at us for our snow-feebleness. Cause the rest of the country gets lots of snow.

But we laugh louder and longer. Cause they are freezing and we are at the beach.

Canada likes to act smug about it's place in the world, but southwestern canadians like to act smug about their place in Canada. So I was raised to be doubly smug. The smugcloud over my area is really palpably noxious and thick.

I recognize that we're quite an insufferable crew.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

I'm sure you do.

Weirdness:

I just got home from 6 days in the hospital with Abigail, yes? She had RSV... which is a fancy acronym for "respiratory syncytial virus".... which is a fancy phrase for a really bad phlegmy cold that is so bad and phlegmy you end up in the damn hospital for a week.

Okay. So I check my email today for the 1st time in 6 days and THIS was the article babycentre.com decided to drop in my inbox yesterday:

RSV to blame....

They're watching me......

I hope Abigail gets completely well soon! Heck, one more thing to watch out for with my grandchildren. I never heard of RSV before - just one more thing to worry about, I guess.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

We've had really weird warm stormy weather, like 50 or 60 degrees at the beginning of February. There were strong warm winds howling all night. Cloudy. I cracked the window to get some air. Lots of trash cans blowing into the street. I kind of like this weather.
I'm donating my body to science fiction.

I'm used to January thaws, though we didn't have one. Not used to February thaws. I can see the ground again and we have flood warnings up from the melt. It was nice finally losing the permanent ice on the driveway, but I think it's too early to lose the snow.

I wouldn't mind if this meant spring really were just around the corner. But it ain't.

I was reading a review of Born on a Blue Day about an autistic guy who thinks of days of the week as having colors, and I thought, well of course they do. To me, Monday and Wednesday have always been blue, Tuesday is yellow, Thursday is orange, Friday is also orange but a brighter shade, and Saturday is green. Sunday is white or grey.

I'm not really kinaesthetic, I don't think, and definitely not autistic. (This guy taught himself Icelandic in a week. I immediately went hmm. Hoshi as an autistic savant. That could be really interesting. I think someone else here already thought of that earlier, though, didn't they?)

Anyway, I just always associate those colors with those days, or at least with the words for those days. Is that really so unusual? Doesn't anybody else here do that?
