The Tattoo Thread

Postby enterprikayak » Sun Feb 22, 2009 6:37 pm

Let's show some skin people!

I got this one on my left ankle at 15 with my Mom (I'm a harpist):
Image
(wow, this one is faded and old-looking now... yeesh)

And this one at 16 on my right side with my Mom:
Image

And this yinyang compass at 26 on the sole of my left foot (this bitch is just *THAT* tough) :
Image

It's faded worse than the 14 year old tats cause it's on the sole of my foot. They fade on the palms and soles really quick apparently. But I've had that one for coming up 3 years and it's still there. (They said it wouldn't last a week  ).

Ow.

You know, you finally gave me a medical name for something I have (which is apparently odd, since I don't have sweaty hands), which allowed to go googling and discover the medical name of something else I have, complete with disgusting pictures online that allowed me to say, oh yeah, that's it. The only podiatrist I ever showed it to -- because at the time I was beginning to be in pain just from walking --- just said, "Huh, I've never seen something like that before," which frankly hadn't led me to have a lot of confidence in podiatrists.

So thank you for sharing your sweaty footness!

I have no tattoos myself, but my 34 year-old daughter has two - one around her wrist and one around her ankle. They are quite lovely. She had a tongue piercing but gave that up (thank goodness) after clunking her teeth on it one too many times. My seventeen year-old granddaughter has a a lip ring (what was my daughter thinking when she signed a release for that!) and she has a navel ring. "How disgusting" says the the woman (me) with triple pierced ears. :?

 my mom says the same thing - she'd prefer tattooing over piercing. That must be a mom thing because it doesn't make sense to me - I mean tattoos are permanent! Not that it bothers me, never been much into piercing.

As some of you may know, for about 2 months in the fall of 2007 I DID have an eyebrow piercing but it got infected so I had to take it out and it wasn't in long enough for the hole to still be there when it healed. Plus I got involved w/ the Marine Corps shortly after so I didn't exactly have the opportunity to get it back. IDK if I'd think about it again or not...

You had an infection and you'd still think about doing it again?

I know it's paranoid, but I just don't want poorly paid people to be doing things to me that require them to have used an autoclave correctly to avoid the risk of giving me heptatitis or something.

Do it! Do it! 8) (New eyebrow piercing.) You need to warn people you are more dangerous than you look.

I suppose I should tell you the followup to the story about my kids proclaiming they would get "Mom" tattoos. I asked my oldest, who is 20, whether he was going to carry through with that promise. He goes, "I decided it would be more appropriate to get that tattoo closer to your end." I go, "What does that mean?" He says, "Closer to when you die."

Oh well, I give points for an attempt to be more delicate.

Oh, and my kids want me to get their names tatooed around my ankle. My husband hates tatoos, so . . . . Oh the dilemma.

JT, I'd go with what your husband wants because, uh hem, he would see the tattoos more up close and personal. :?

Elessar, preferring tattoos to piercings may be a mom thing, but you are talking to a mom here who has piercings (ears), and not tattoos herself. I don't like face piercings, but I would like face tattoos even less. Fortunately no one in my family wants a face tattoo, just face piercings. The navel piercing is okay :| , the lip piercing I dislike. :(

Ooo . . . that's nice. And it gives me an idea: a barred galaxy, the best guess as to what the Milky Way galaxy looks like, tatooed near my hand, just like that.

Oooooh! That's be awesome. You know that some astronomer must have gotten a tattoo of the milky way already and when they announced it was more of a barred galaxy than a spiral, all his nerdy astronomer friends were giving him hell
