Would Trip ever get a tattoo?

Those fics nothwithstanding, as for Trip, I cannot really see him as getting a tattoo. And the only T'Pol I can see with one is Mirror T'Pol (she had a belly button ring, remember). But that's just me.

Yes. I guess you could argue an old Vulcan tradition, but I really don't see Trip being a tattoo type of guy. And that's not just because *I* am not a tattoo fan. I could see, say, Hoshi sporting an unadvertised ankle tattoo. But not Trip.

People also do kinda crazy things when they're young. I think Trip had a good time as a teenager. You're not who you'll be at 30 when you're 17 or 18, so, who Trip is "now" doesn't have any bearing on whether he'd have gotten inked with his friends on Spring Break in Tajiti

You're right, though. What you do in one period of your life, whether you're a teenager or not, isn't necessarily something you'd do later on. I actually didn't get my first ink until I was 25, so I was young-ish, and kinda frustrated and angry in general, so it was the beginning of my Big Rebellion, I think. (And it was one month before I started beauty school!) Prior to that I usually took my frustrations out on my hair (ha! Now you all know the reason why I was bleach blond with hair 1/4" long!!), but I felt the need to do something permanent. So I got a tat.

Would I get one now? Well, yeah, now that I already have one, it makes it that much easier to get another, but if I had "virgin skin," I don't know. All I can say is good thing I got something that's actually meaningful to me instead of something dumb I'd actually regret!!

Trip? Yeah, I can see a Spring Break or frat party kind of situation when he was younger, sure. As a 30-something? Maybe less likely but still possible, if his ink meant enough to him to seem like a good idea at the time, and maybe with enough beer.

I think when older people get tats they just tend to be more meaningful. Then again, my aunt got a Tweety Bird on her calf at like 60,

I think that something T'Pol related (her name, t'hyla, or whatever) in Vulcan characters would be pretty cool... You really might want to check out "The Firebrand". That story is sort of a legend when it comes to TnT fanfic...

Just revisiting this topic for a sec...does anyone know where this fic is archived? I don't see it listed here, unless the author published it under another name. (I looked for cinoflex)

Yes the fanfic tradition of T'Pol giving Trip a Vulcan tattoo (embarrassing that I know this off the top of my head) started with the fic "Firebrand" by Cinoflex. It was taken up by Peter Simons in "Healing the Mind," and by Kevin in a story I can't remember the name of, and by Elessar in "Vulcan for First Date." As a result of all this, my E-squared series beginning with "Heresy" has them both wearing Vulcan tattoos and the tatoos are something of a recurring theme in that story.

Maybe it's a minor nit, but what Cincoflex wrote about in The Firebrand and what I wrote about in Decorations is not a tattoo because it doesn't involve ink. It's scarring because it relies on a chemical burn (along with some biting in mine ).
