Debugging is a pain in the pooper, but a necessary part of launching a new and improved anything. 8) Personally, I appreciate all the hard work, and despite the minor inconveniences, I think everything looks great so far.

I am working on an outline for a sequel (and even a sequel to the sequel) to one of my stands alone's.
It got my thinking, what about sequels? If you post one sequel, does the orginal get a link? Or is it seen as chapter 2 like with multi-chapter stories? Personally, I don't like the idea of naming the orginal chapter 1 and the sequel chapter 2, because they are two stories on their own - I do like the fact that you can see in one look if there is a follow-up chapter or sequel. Just my humble opinion and idea.

The changes you're making are really great. Thank you.

If you're looking for minor suggestions, I've got one. Is there a way to allow paragraph breaks in the comments sections for stories? If you type more than a couple of sentences, your review becomes one big lump.

Have a great St. Patrick's Day.

YES! This site is becoming the most wonderful of the whole Universe. Vulcans will begrudge us.

I really appreciate that.

We're still having a bit of rough and tumble with features we need to make the submission process as versatile as it was before, so we appreciate your continued patience and flexibility with us while we navigate this. If you're having doubts, just remember when we lost the entire site and had to rebuild it... this is nothing like that, and we'll get through it and be a better site.

My main issue is the same as panyasan. We need links between stories in a series. Or some way to find the next story.

THANKS!!!

Hi guys, we are looking into the extent of the comment issue and doing our best to determine if these were comments that were lost or comments that have simply been misplaced. As we once had a complete database crash in which we lost all the comments irretrievably and had to rebuild them from scratch, I understand as both the admin and an author how frustrating it is to potentially lose comments. What I can tell you is that Mike is currently working on recovering what can be recovered. We are doing our best to return everything to normal, including making what interface and aesthetic changes we can.

If you encounter a major problem or disruption in your stories, service of any kind, make sure and send it directly to my email at elessar@triaxiansilk.com. I am available all day at that email address but try to keep in mind, as most of you are on North American time, that Mike is both heavily occupied with fixing and expanding functionality of the PHP interface, and that he is also on U.K. time. So if you leave us a message at 6 PM EST about a problem you're having, I will probably have to forward it to Mike's email, but for him it will be around 12 or 1 AM GMT.

With your patience and understanding we will no doubt be able to move through this transitional period much faster and with far less service disruption to availability of fiction than we had in our last crash. One thing I can promise you, is that if you come to me with a personal problem about your fic(s), I will personally get back to you, even if I can't offer you an immediate fix or solution to it. Thanks!

If you have comments which you particulary treasure, it would be good to copy and save them. When that crash happened that we lost all the comments on, I had delayed saving some that I had just gotten and was proud of. So I lost them and couldn't even remember half of what was so nice about them! So save your comments, just in case.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Updates on what we're working on:

mjimeyg wrote:Hey John,

Elessar wrote:1. Is it possible to return original HoT stories to just links to HoT in the archive? I.e., is it possible for manually set links back to HoT stories to coexist side-by-side with automatically generated links of Triaxian Silk new submissions?

The only way I can think to do this is by making it a redirect so that the story is one chapter and the page is basically a javascript that causes a redirect to the page at HoT. The thing is ALL the fics will need to be changed by hand.

Elessar wrote:2. Is it possible to generate two different Archive pages, one for HoT stuff, all links to HoT, one for TriS?

It is possible, but it will require altering the database and again, altering each fic manually. Implementing this might mean a different approach to what you asked for in 1.

Elessar wrote:3. Is it possible to add the ability to post Prologues and Epilogues, instead of the system automatically setting it to "Chapter" 1, 2, etc.

That is very easy and is actually on my to do list... however, any fic that doesn't have a custom chapter title will automatically be listed as Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.

Elessar wrote:4. Is it possible to make it so that standalone stories, that aren't multiple chapters, don't say "Chapter 1" at the beginning?

Yes, simply adding custom titles will do this... its not available yet as I need to add the box to the ficmanager page. Again... definitely on my to-do list on long with justTripin's shared comment page error.

Elessar wrote:5. For series that ARE on TriS, one way or another are not going to go anywhere even if we return to a HoT linked archive, is it possible to develop some kind of "series" architecture to link multiple stories? I know I said something about this and/or you've been thinking about it already because of our porblems, just update me on what ideas you have and if you've been either experimentally or just mentally exploring any of them.

Its possible, and I can start work on it, but I will need to re do a lot of the ficmanager page and add new management pages.

Elessar wrote:6. Where are we on pictures in posts?

Unfortunately the fics I can find with pics (no rhyme intended... ah hell, who am I kidding... cause I wanted to rhyme!), all the pics show up. Can you give me an example of a fic where the pics don't show?

Elessar wrote:7. I'm going to repost Liberty Two Four because Buurman doesn't like how it's posted. He says some of the chapters are mucked up. No worries - 1500, a few are going to be mucked up.

Oops! Sorry about that.

I know that a lot of you are waiting to see your stories up. I'm stuck with this stupid

<!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Calibri; mso-font-alt:\"Century Gothic\"; mso-font-charset:161; mso-generic-font-family:swiss; mso-font-pitch:variable; mso-font-signature:-1610611985 1073750139 0 0 159 0;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:\"\"; margin-top:0in; margin-right:0in; margin-bottom:10.0pt; margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:Calibri; mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri; mso-bidi-font-family:\"Times New Roman\"; mso-ansi-language:EL;} @page Section1 {size:595.3pt 841.9pt; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:35.4pt; mso-footer-margin:35.4pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} -->

Crap that sticks itself into every story. We're at a standstill until I can figure out why this crap is showing up all of the sudden. :explode: :censored:

Oh and one more thing...

Some people are sending in stories partially coded... That means like bold and italics and all that... We need them one way or the other. Either ALL codes, with paragraph breaks and everything, or no codes at all, because if there's any at all, I have to put it in as HTML, which means it needs everything. The subject lines, the stuff that says the rating, the summary, the title, all that, none of it can be coded if you're sending in without paragraph codes. Just bold/italicize/underline the way Word does.

Thanks.

I'VE MADE A BREAKTHROUGH!

While the design is still kinda messed up, I've found a workaround to get that nasty code out of there that keeps showing up. The stories will come a'flowin.

By the way, a few stories are still exhibiting either A. apostrophe/slash issues (which is unfortunately unrelated :(), and B. some abnormally large spacing. It just didn't look right when I deleted the spacing, it ran everything together super close.... so... sorry if that spacing bothers you guys. If it's a big deal to anyone, just let me know and I'll either show you the "run together" version or take it down until we figure it out.
