I can't understand why it should be a problem of the browser. I can see every fic and every chapter prior to March 23rd just fine with IE6. :?

I don't pretend to understand any of this. All I know is that I've been able to read the new stuff with Mozilla Firefox. It ain't always pretty, but I can read it.

MF is not one of those horrifying oh-my-God-what-have-I-done downloads. At least not that I've noticed. (Though I do find myself wondering if it's possible John's computer is somehow attaching Mozilla code to files when he downloads them ... which would be a very odd, wrongheaded thing for Mozilla to do, however.)

John or Mike -- if you'd like me to try uploading my Chapter 12 while in IE, we can see if that makes any difference. I just haven't used the new system yet so I might need a little walking through. Maybe not going through the hostmonster mailbox could make a difference. Who the heck knows. I don't mind experimenting.

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

I don't know if it was earlier in this thread or somewhere in another one, but lots of other people made the same complaint, and the FireFox users aren't having problems. Kevin offered a technical explanation. I'm not a techie so I didn't understand it, but I've got FireFox and I can read all the stories just fine.

Well we don't plan on leaving IE users out to dry. Even if I don't like the browser , I'm not that mean! :)

I can *kind of* tell you, Vaux, why it's only stories post March 23rd. That would be because we were having stories backing up between March 17th and 23rd because the stories you saw going up before March 23rd were just the "select few" that would work normally, i.e., that we could post without some kind of goofy trickery needed to make them appear correctly. So, I started experimenting (as you can see me say earlier in this thread 'I made a breakthrough!') in order to get everything to post correctly.

I stumbled upon a method that (it appeared) worked to make everything display correctly. Hey I have an idea... I'm going to try something...

This goes for I.E. users only - (Internet Explorer), and anyone else with old versions of Firefox that aren't able to see the fics I put up earlier....

Go look at a story I JUST posted - "The Captives - Chapter 8".

At the very beginning, do you see:

Well but you're using Firefox... I'm wondering if IE users see it because... I'm just kinda wondering if "posting normally" renders a story looking fine to IE users but w/ that font guck to Firefox users... and posting the "special" way I did before, renders it readable to Firefox users, but unreadable to IE users. Just trying to figure it out.

But you know what guys, we're not going to keep this up for long. We're going to implement a more universally accessible solution here before too long.

AKA, if we can't at least make it so that a basic level of submissions can be posted and viewed without extreme circumstances - we're just going to revert to the old system and treat this entire experience as a beta stage, so that we know what extra functionality we need and what fixes need to be in place before we can try it again.

The Captives

By panyasan

Chapter 8

Disclaimer : Enterprise and its characters are property of CBS/Paramount.

Rating: PG-13

Time-line: Takes place a year after Terra Prime (January 2155) in the beginning of the year 2156, the start of the Earth-Romulan war (2156-2160).

Summary: Archer works at Starfleet Headquarters while Enterprise is in dry dock. Trip was working on a retrieved Romulan ship at a distant facility in the Kajani-system while T\'Pol was in prison. In this chapter, Archer makes the call to Trip, as seen in chapters 5 and 6, but from his point of view.

Author\'s note: Thanks to my beta, KKGlinka.

He was back on his ship. Stepping though the corridors, he was walking to his quarters. Just the thought of being in space again made him happy. The familiar surroundings of his cabin welcomed him. He looked through his window to see a big beautiful orange moon
...

And then the rest of the story. :happyjump:

Well we don't plan on leaving IE users out to dry. Even if I don't like the browser , I'm not that mean! :)

Thank you so much!

I have just put in a fix that will hopefully help with the missing titles and showing authors only issue.

Could those of you who HAVE the problem post and let me know if it is fixed?

Many thanks.

Must be a Romulan virus that effected my story. :vulcan:  You not only see the codes in IE, but also in Firefox. Also the same issue with the / and lots of space between paragraphs in both systems. Chapter 7 is still MIA in Internet Explorer.
The Vulcan Ambassador to Earth makes a big entrance in this chapter, so on his behalf ignore the codes and read the story.

Nothing has changed in IE for me on that batch of problematic stories. Either nothing is there under the author's name or I get this line:

OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

Could someone post or PM me a screen shot of what the error looks like... also, could some one cut and paste the source code as it is loaded in their browser.

I don't think I know exactly where people are seeing these errors.

Sometimes seeing helps with the fixing.

Thanks

Mike
