Probably. The same theory could explain the over abundance of women in the Stargate SG1/Atlantis shipper communities... Somewhat in the SG1 Sam/Jack but that's so big there actually ARE men, since O'Neill was a man's man... but in Atlantis, the Sheppard/Weir community - practically ALL women. Horny, ravenous, UNSTOPPABLE WOMEN! Treacherous, it was, over there.

It could also be about the hotness of T'Pol/Jolene and Trip is a guy that it's easy for other guys to identify with, effectively making Trip "our" proxy when he's involved with T'Pol.

I dunno, it's just a theory. I haven't shipped that much for another pairing besides TnT. I have silently rooted for others, but never to the point of screaming "bloody murder" if they didn't pan out. Well, I briefly cursed Joss Whedon at one point when Zander and Cordy broke up, but got over that pretty quick.

OH, SHEPPARD/WEIR. I totally was one of those who started all the Sheppard/Weir stuff right after the pilot episode, when it was supposed to be the weird/non-canon pairing. It was all girls then, too, but there were only like 10 of us. It got a little scary in there after a while!!! ;) (Though I suppose it was always a bit horny, since we originally envisioned Atlantis to be this wonderful orgy zone of casual sex instead of the EPIC ANGSTFEST it became. It was fun while it lasted!)

But yes, that's totally my primary fandom experience!! Which led to my "what? boys? FANDOM WITH BOYS!?" comment. :)

Somehow you strike me as an Atlantis Shep/Weir shipper . That's just... a certain type of woman

I thought it made great sense, they just completely assassinated her character. Sci Fi makes the dumbest decisions, ever. Maybe it's the writers, IDK. You know Berman and Braga whined about franchise fatigue.. it's not the franchise that gets fatigued and weak and over-taxed... it's the friggin writers. I swear, at this point, the Stargate writers think they can get away with anything. They have such big heads after SG1's success... just like the TNG writers.

 You'd best be explaining that RIGHT NOW, mister! Yeah, I wrote the first Shep/Weir fic (actually, I think it was the first Atlantis fic on the internets) after the pilot on a dare and, well, I had to save money by cancelling cable right before they offed her. I find that I'm much happier this way!

It KILLS me, because I LOVE some of the work Braga did on TNG, so I was always dragging my feet on the Bermaga hate. "Frame of Mind" is just fabulous. But yeah, he was kind of known for the batshitcrazy episodes, and that doesn't work if your whole series is like that.

I squealed with delight when Manny Coto's name showed up with executive producing creds on 24.... then cried alone in a corner in a puddle of my own urine with a shattered crack pipe and a dead hooker when I saw the name "Braga" appear a few weeks later.... GOV'MENT CAME AND TOOK MAH BAAAAAAABY!!!

...That's a family guy reference for anyone who thinks I've just completely lost it. Well... part of it's a Family Guy reference. The other part is really lost,

Another third are about date-and/or-normal rape, and the last third about dead beat dads.

Isn't that the channel full of nasty ex-spouses and murderous current spouses and pschopathic lovers trying to horn in and create ex-spouses and murderous current spouses? A sort of no-marriage-left-behind-in-the-angst-game channel? Why I pay for cable I just don't know. Oh yeah, to entertain the grandkids when they come over.

Elessar, you mean a MALE watches that channel?

Personally I find it funny that I watch more Spike, which is actually marketed for men...

Extreme Elimination Challenge! Japanese teams of coworkers competing in athletic events involving lots of falling into water, wearing huge mascot costumes. Like dressed as chickens and hot dogs and the Stature of Liberty.

JT, you have pegged what I don't like about Spike. But there is some good stuff on it too. I don't know, when I channel surf, it seems the more and more channels there are, they contain less and less of what I would like to watch. I can remember when there were only 4 channels and it seemed back then that I found something to interest me every time I turned on the TV. The good old days...the pasture is greener the further you look back for us old folks.

Yeah, we had three network channels and Channel 44 for Star Trek as a kid and I was completely entertained.

Probably because the networks competed for viewers. In England when I lived there during college I think they only had three channels, BBC1, BBC2, and ITV. I didn't have a TV but when we were hanging out it with people who did it was entirely possible that you'd have a snookers (billiards) competition on one channel, some talk show on another, and some goddawful American repeat on the last. (They were nuts about Dallas.) Or there would be sheep trials or horrifying Christmas song competitions or an examination of what would really get pots clean the best. I never read so much in my life as I did that year. Doctor Who was the TV highlight of the week, and I'm sorry, but even with the wonderful Tom Baker, that's just sad.
OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28
