I particularly like the assessment of T'Pol's personal space. And Hoshi having afternoons off. Smile Very nice indeed.

Now, the possibility of a Romulan defecting is interesting. We know they did later. I'm guessing it's unlikely now, since they blew up a human ship and all, but it raises an intriguing idea about how Romulans might dislike their society.

Smile Nice chapter and to see how the crew sees T'Pol and how she lets only a few special people into her peronal space it's nice to see her and Hoshi working as a team. And trying to figure out what kind of Romulan ship design it is . And the fact the crew is talking about Eisler and Hess as a couple is nice .

Sweet ... I pointed Daniel to Trekcore (for which he's irked) and he tweaked the D'deridex pic...

To celebrate this wicked cool new image, I'm putting the next scene up much earlier than I intended.

Act One, Scene Three is up.

A Convocation of Commanders...

=/\=

Up at Fanfiction.net for those of you who prefer it there.

And, in case you're wondering, I envision Chulak as Ciarán Hinds.

I must admit that this scene is probably my favorite out of all of the scenes that I've written before or since (although the Shran scene that'll be showing up in this fic was a lot of fun too). I had such a strong mental image about how the scene would look on the screen that the words just flew onto the page. There were a couple of pronoun issues that I just noticed (and fixed) 'cause I decided to change the gender of the commander who gives D'deridex crap in mid-stream, but those were easily fixed.

And the pic is from the short-lived series Profit. It's an iconic pose, IMO, and totally fits with how I perceive the character of D'deridex. He's a manipulator, a planner, a mastermind, not a soldier...

Wow! I really liked scene four! Totally awesome! Faint

You've done great with your portrayal of the Romulans. More, more, more... Thumbs Up

And I'm beginning to like D'deridex! Weird, huh? Does that make me a traitor to the human race? Vulcan WTF

Not to put you on the spot, KTR, but can you explain why you like him? I mean, I know why I like him, but that's based more on the knowledge I have about what he does in the future and I'm interested in finding out why he appeals as a character to you...

No, seriously, he seems like an honorable man. Sure, he serves the Empire but he's not a political animal, corrupt and only looking for personal gain. He's a patriot. At least that's how he comes off to me and that I think is an admirable trait, even in an enemy.

Of course, he may turn in another direction in the future, but then I'll probably not appreciate him any more. But as of now, I have respect for him. It's the same kind of respect I can have for someone like Erwin Rommel or Georgi Zhukov.

I think D'deridex is likeable because he isn't a cardboard cutout Bad Guy. That's dull. But you've written him with dimension as a man determined to fight for his empire, not a soulless killing machine. And after he's been defeated in the E/R War, I hope he blames it on Chulak and has a successful political career.

Besides, he's smart. I like that.

A stupid enemy is boring. This guy is dangerous, which in interesting. Nice.

Cool. Then I've accomplished my goal. I wanted him to come across as a smart yet honorable individual who is a product of the system but hasn't been corrupted by that system. As I generally loath "stupid bad guys" (my favorite villains are Palpatine and Scorpius, both of whom generally outsmart their opponents), I wanted to make sure that he wasn't one...

I'm also enjoying the "make up the Romulan culture as you go" aspect of this exercise ...

Cool Well I bet even the Rommies dont name the first ship of a class after military men that are faliures. Laughing

He is a Pretty dern interesting character, an quite obviously Romulan to. Loyal to the Empire, Check. Not a Mindless drone, check. Cunning, Check. Inteligent, Check. Pretty desent Rommie.
Cool To bad he's a Rommie though. Raspberry

Great scene. Smile
That Captain dont seem to bright though. Confused
Am I wrong in thinkin he ordered one ship into the Sol system? Confused Thats sending a freakin fox into a lions den.

Cool Dont worry Rigil. If I can suffer through 4 years of Cannon Archer, Ill muddle through with yer "fixxed" version. Even if I have been scared by 4 years of Archer. Its just kinda hard to accept that this guy could ever become an affective Military Fleet Commander, goin off of on screen stuff that is. More then likely always will be difficult for me to forget the Ol cannon Archer.

But Ill suffer through. Smile
TnT I love em. Very Happy

Smile Nice chapter with Romulan traditions and the mention of S'Task and the knife combat was in the Vulcan soul books nice to see you using it here in your story.D'deridex is a smart enemy and that he shows contempt for Chulak is obvivous. That he's right humans are full of suprises and not to underestimate them. I'm enjoying this story great Romulan scenes in this chapter.

Was it? Laughing I pulled that out of my butt! I've never read Vulcan Soul ... in fact, the only two Trek books I've read since those really small James Blish ones have been LFM & TGTMD.

Holy Frak. Did I just read that correctly? My mission is complete ...

That Captain dont seem to bright though. Confused

He's of average intelligence. It's just that D'deridex is much smarter than he is. Do you think that Chulak would have even noticed a lowly subcommander while Valdore was alive? Not to mention, D'deridex has access to information that Chulak doesn't ... hence, the captain is outclassed.

Chulak has a role to play ... I'm surprised no one hasn't identified him yet...

Am I wrong in thinkin he ordered one ship into the Sol system? Confused Thats sending a freakin fox into a lions den.

Providing the lions can find him. Twisted Evil

Look at it this way: I've established that both Trip & T'Pol have had ... memory gaps due to the timeline going all wonky in Storm Front, right? Now imagine that in every one of those incidents in which you think Archer was a dolt or something have been "adjusted" by the timeline resetting itself properly. Voila.
