Re: Randomness
So I've got Windows Movie maker going with TnT clips that I'm turning into a video, and my roommate sees and says, "They should've gotten married."
To which I reply, "Well, as it happens, I'm making a music video about them..."

Random affirmation is the best.

Yep, but it's not exactly an upper, as I'm placing it right as Trip is leaving for Columbia...

Re: Randomness
I know this is off topic for a TnT site, but since this is a random thread i thought maybe I can get away with it.
In the unlikley event that anyone might be interested, I am writing an independent book set in my own original universe. The first three chapters are currently posted on my blog at http://reactionarycaveman.com , again if anyone finds time hanging heavy on their hands. Feedback is always more than welcome. If right wing ranting offends you, just ignore the blog itself.
I have no idea what I am ultimately gong to do with this story. I may continue to post it for free. i may decide to find a publisher. I may decide to self-publish. Who knows? Who cares? Anyway, General feedback would give me some idea whether it is worth even considering the possibility.
Thanks.
Later.

Re: Randomness
It looks intriguing, BnB, though I know you write nice meaty (LONG) chapters so I can't quite get into it until I get the frickin' taxes done. Why don't you set up your own thread for it and see if that draws a few people in?
I can tell you my first reaction, thinking like a book agent (all they think about is some reason to reject you): Oh no, the hero is over 100? He'd better fix that quickly or he'll lose everyone who didn't love Benjamin Button. But I suspect you will fix that quickly. Also suspect your girl there is supposed to be the moral equivalent of The Dumb Chick Who Accidentally Destroys the Universe, but I may be wrong. That's where I left off for now.
(And hey, is that a new chapter of Lerterian Chronicles?)

Re: Randomness
Not counting the usual rapes and murders and genocides, this is just the most heartbreaking story I've read in a long time. It almost seems like science fiction, it's so horrible...like you can't believe this is happening on the same planet.

Re: Randomness
That's just dreadfully sad. I'd heard about teenage girls being stolen for brides because there aren't enough girls due to the one child policy, but this is a new one.
And now, without any good way to segue: Fake Facebook pages. Sort of stupid in some ways, but funny. "Bill Gates just bought Azerbaijan!"

LOL. Satan is a hoot.
I haven't checked my facebook page in months. Maybe they'll have taken it down.

Re: Randomness
I'm taking a poll, and I need more opinions. Lucky you all, you get to be my poll guinea pigs.
Does "Want to get together for coffee some time?" constitute some kind of pre-date condition when a guy asks a girl? 'Cause I sure didn't think so, especially when I paid for my own. And I know I'm a little dense about these things (or, if you ask my much flirtier cousin, hopelessly dense), but I totally didn't see it that way.
Guys?

Where I live it is, except if it's from a boy/man of your "friends gang" or it is a business matter. But just because in our culture a man and a woman in a private meeting means something. I don't know if in your country is the same.
So I'm not a help at all!

The very ironic, "poetic justice" thing about this is that in a future (in fact, it happens now) Chinese people will be desperate for women (because, you know, Chinese people don't reproduce by spores, like Basques

Unfortunately, it won't change the kidnapping trauma and the loss of the parents.

Re: Randomness
Coffee is actually the perfect low-stress pre-date date. Either that, he hopes to sell you an insurance policy.
Seriously. I had to write sales copy for some 'little black book for guys' at some point, and their number 1 recommendation for the first step to take with a girl you liked was coffee. No stress, no weird expectations, just a chance to get to know each other better. And, they said, see how she treats the waiter and run like hell if she's rude.
Pretty good advice, actually.

As long as it isn't business or someone you already hang out with any way, then yeah, I'd say it's a prelude to dating. Dinner and/or drinks can be intimidating for one or both parties if they don't already know each other well--the possibility exists for awkwardly romantic settings or, worse, having a little too much to drink from nerves and saying something stupid. Going to your friendly neighborhood Starbucks, however, is a little more "neutral". The atmosphere of most coffee shops is pretty relaxed (which is kind of funny since their function is to get us all wired on caffeine) and it's not the kind of environment where you feel pressured to impress someone (ie an expensive restaurant or a trendy club).

I've seen pictures of stuff like that before, but I'd love to see it up close! It's really amazing when you think about it.
