comment coding thing
I tried entering a comment and forgot to enter those stinking codes. It came up with a message in red saying to enter the codes . So I did. Then it came up with another message saying I entered the codes WRONG. I had entered them same case, and the exact numbers and letters. So I never got my comment entered. Why do we need these codes? What purpose do they serve? We already have to be members and enter a password to get on this site.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Re: comment coding thing
I failed to post a comment on "The Lerteiran Chronicles, chapter 8".
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

Re: comment coding thing
The codes are needed to prevent automated programs from adding comments about selling things like, viagra, sex, gardening tools etc.
Basically prevent spamming.
The fan fiction site and the forum are essentially two seperate sites.
I have tested the comment box in both IE and FF, they both work fine for me.
It could be a random thing, something about that specific day... but there are no coding problems.
If it happens again, make a note of the date and time, story and what broswer you are using.

Re: comment coding thing
I had a similar problem early on in the upgrade (I use FireFox), but that seems to have cleared up for me for a while now. When it was an issue, I copied my comment before I entered the code--just in case. Then if it told me I did it wrong or whatever, I refreshed the page, pasted my comment back in, entered the new code it gave me, and then the comment box was happy with me again.

Re: comment coding thing
Mike, this morning (7:50am EST) the box on the IE screen has shrunk and nothing happens when I submit a comment. (Well, on my story anyway.) In Firefox the box is normal size and it works fine. I'm running 32-bit Vista and I think my IE is probably v.7.
OMG, ANOTHER new chapter! NORTH STAR Chapter 28

I am running the same system.
Were you on the beta site?
That is currently a problem there.

I don't know. But the problem went away.

Re: comment coding thing
Is there a word limit in the comment box? I tend to write longer comments. The past ciyoke I've posted have had to be entered in two separate boxes. One required three separate boxes. I don't mind doing it this way, but it is a little strange.

Re: comment coding thing
Did you receive any messages from the system when you had to split a comment or did it just do nothing?

Re: comment coding thing
I know that one thing Mike is working on now is the comment size limitation. He and John are aware of it, so it shouldn't be too long before it's fixed.

Re: comment coding thing
I just tried to enter a comment on a story and got the verification code wrong. It gave me an error message on the code and wiped out my message. I find that infuriating because I usually mistype the first verification code (and pass words even if I have used them for years). I did retype my comment and it was probably close to the original, but I almost gave up leaving a comment, I was so mad.
Of course that would have been a disservice to the author of the story. So if you can at least program this software to retain the comment while giving a verification code error message, that would help greatly.
