Twitter

OK, I know I am showing my age, but could someone explain Twitter to me. I understand how it works - that's no problem. What stumps me is the "why". Why is it necessary to broadcast what you are doing? It seems really narcissistic to me. I mean, "I'm at the grocery and I'm really stressed". I mean who the heck cares. Is this the 24 hour news feed carried to ridiculous heights?

I just watched a relationship go boom because of loose lips on twitter. That may be a good thing because my friend found out early on that his possible S.O. was a fruitcake. Sorry this sounds like a rant and maybe it is.

Evidently I'm older than you. (Well! Sure! ). I had to look for this word on Google.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

I don't get it either, Navigator. But then I don't even care for Facebook.

I guess I prefer my online time to be focused on own private, addictive obsessions. 8)

The reason I think it's stupid is because it's basically just the Facebook "status" feature without ANYTHING else. It's like wow, I can tell people what I'm doing. Yeah, so what, Facebook has done that forever and it's got a ton of other stuff too.

I think the advantage to Twitter is how real time it can be as a result of being simple enough for mobile devices to quickly and easily access it.

No, just Italian. You haven't been infected yet, and you're fortunate.

Contagious as in something like a "Twitter virus"? I think there is another virus going round and its symptom is parents who are giving all their kids cell phones. I know of a parent who just gave a cell phone to their eight-year-old! Maybe I am too old because I think this is obsessive? :wtf: I think I would rather chip the kid than give them a cell phone. You know, like you can "chip" pets by implanting a computer chip in them so they can be identified if stolen.

I'm a twitter user. I find that I don't use it for what I'm up to as much as little thoughts and opinions that might strike me. Also for quickly discussing ideas with someone on the move. In fact, I don't think I know ANYONE who uses it for where they are, what they ate for lunch things etc. It's also good as a news feed from sites like the BBC, as I am one of the few in the UK who are able to use SMS alerts (Vodafone only)

It's also exploitable for free SMSing between vodafone handsets (at least in the UK) teehee

I twitter. I use it to keep in touch w/my fellow writers and drop a note if I'm betaing something for someone. I'm also part of an ENT RPG game on Twitter too. Granted, I'm not on it all the time, but it's OK.

For the record, I'm also on Facebook, and I keep in touch with my far-flung relatives through it. (My cousin's in Japan, and I have many friends in Canada and Austrailia).

So I'm weird. :dunno:

Facebook is a good way to keep in touch with people. On the other hand, I get sick of logging on to find 3 Hatching Pets invitations, 2 Lil Green Patch invitations, 3 different cause invitations, etc...

I lost touch with the few friends I had in high school and have not yet found them online. Boy, how clickish we were back then. I had three close friends I hung out with and a lot of acquaintances from different after school activities. Inept social skills were rampant, I think! Then I made it to a twenty year reunion and it was easier to talk to people. I exchanged addresses with several people, but none of my close friends were at the reunion. I wrote once to all those whose address I exchanged with and none of them wrote back. So that was that. Of course I had moved out of the community, well out of the state actually. So we don't cross paths physically which makes it not surprising that we don't stay in touch, I guess. :?

Yikes, I noticed I have already made my last post as a fleet admiral. I'm getting kicked up to what....just went to look...commodore. Uh, oh. In the Coast Guard Auxiliary commodore level is politics/paperwork level. There are those who get to commodore strictly via political type jobs and others who get there after spending time in the trenches, ie., surface operations or air operations or a lot of PE (public education teaching safe boating classes). We all tend to bitch about those who only did paperwork/politics and give more respect to those who came up through the "trenches". So someone told me, "imagine the current commodore sitting on the commode (can, toilet) and think commod-ore. Yikes. :?

I don't think the Borg have commodes, probably just personal holding tanks and tubes they plug into a wall to transfer wastes out.
