I know that the three relationships are canon. That part I have no doubt about. I forget which episode offhand, but I know I've heard Trip deliver the line at least three or four times because every time it comes up on the show, I keep waiting to see if something about the alleged engagement is mentioned, and every time it never is I remember that from the last time I saw it, lol.

I can't remember that it was said on the show, but I do remember one review (from KTR?) - no fic - that stated that Trip had three serious relationships before T'Pol. No mentioning of engagement.

Must stop lurking long enough to drop in and say:

In Breaking the Ice he said he had three serious relationships that went bust.
At some point in that first season he talked about getting a Dear John letter from Natalie.
In that episode with the wispy aliens, he referred to adventures with Lisa.
And according to Shuttlepod One he had picked out names for his kids with Ruby, though he didn't seem too taken aback that Malcolm had also had a good time with her so maybe that was just jive talk.

I don't recall any mention of an engagement.

Yes, I've had a serious relapse this weekend, reading all sorts of fic instead of doing what I ought to be doing. Whoever mentioned Eratta really got me started. And then I found VanDiver... and of course BnB this morning.

I have a question. Did we ever see Trip kill anybody?

BTW: The only time I could think of Trip killing a person is - if you want to take that holo-thing seriously - in *the_abomination*. Two aliens strolled in and Trip killed himself and killing those two aliens.

Well he referred to her as "the girl of my dreams" in "shuttle pod 1" I'm thinking he was about 22 and still slightly wet-behind-the-ears. Remember he met Archer at 22, and he probably met Ruby the night they showed during "First Flight." So Ruby might have been his first love, or was it Lisa didn't see "Observer Effect" yet.

I don't think one should count Ruby as one of the three big loves, for the reasons stated by panyasan and WarpGirl. So I guess his first big love was when he was a teenager (we all had one of those, didn't we?). Then Lisa and then Pensacola Natalie.

After that T'Pol and none other until the day he died from really old age.

Lisa is mentioned in "The Crossing" in Season 2. He went diving in Tarpon Springs with her.

That boy sure gets around the state ... Pensacola Natalie up in the Panhandle, Tarpon Springs is close to where I grew up on the Suncoast, he goes diving in the Keys, and the Xindi weapon was concentrated on Southeast FL. So either he wasn't depending solely on ground cars or he sure had a lot of time for long boring drives across a very large state.

We lived there 16 years and I could never persuade my parents to take us to the Keys OR the Everglades or Miami... they said the drive was too boring. But we did drive to Canada and to Missouri... and to the Smokies in North Carolina practically every other year. And of course up to Gainesville for the Gators at least once every football season ... also a hellaciously boring drive. Go figure.

But please don't make me drive for hours on endless highways of palmetto scrub and cow pasture...

I've been to Florida FIVE times Ornlando, Jacksonville, Fort Meyers, Naples, Sanibel, - never enough - I plan to come as often as I can! Especially in the Winter.............What's Palmetto Scrub?
