Hey I'm just going by the Canon dates given. I thought Archer was 45 myself until I looked it up. I very much doubt Hoshi will let race interfere with her choices. Remember on Risa? Malcolm looks older than Trip by about 3 years and remember Trip is EXTREMELY young for a Commander. The Vulcans raise a lot of cane over the fact Jon chose him for XO. Boy are we off topic or what?

I would hope that by the time of Enterprise, any remaining parochial attitudes like that would have dissipated. I certainly can't imagine Hoshi, who loves languages and cultures so much, harboring any weirdness about an ethnic group.

I can't see Hoshi and Malcolm because I think someone would have to fairly straightforwardly woo Hoshi (like that guy on Risa), and Malcolm also seems to be a guy who likes to be wooed, rather than wooing, at least based on what we see on screen. They are too similar in their natures. You need a little yin and yang.

If I remeber correctly yin and yang are about balance. I think that Hoshi and Malcolm are very balanced. Her strengths balance his weaknesses and Vice Versa. I thought their temperments complimented each other very well without being identical. Malcom's always up for a fight and has a temper, Hoshi is passionate but far more likely to approach things peacefully. Shouldn't this be in the Malcolm Hoshi board?

Eh, well, technically ... but I think I've exhausted my interest in the topic anyway.

OK. If you could make up a set of consequences for Sim how would you work it?

Well like Trip wakes up and goes balistic, because I can't see him approving of it. He is rather conservative for the era. Starfleet has an investigation, Phlox might be stripped of his privildges as a physician, something like that.

Warpgirl, this has been beat to death elsewhere.

Trip was First Officer and XO by way of the Enterprise chain of command. Enterprise was a Starfleet Starship and Star Fleet was a human Organization. Enterprise was officered and crewed by Humans with the Exception of Phlox who as a Doctor would nver have command responsibilitues.

Trip was the second highest ranking Human Officer on Board Enterprise when it began it's mission so he was by default the de facto First Offficer and XO.

What the Vulcans thought of that should not have bothered Starfleet as the Vulcans were against the mission in the first place and wanted Earth to put if off for at least Ten years.

T-Pol came on board after Entrprise was launched, crewed and given a mission. She was supposed to be an Observer and liason.

(Berman and Bragga wanted to make Enterprise as close to TOS as they could and Tos had Vulcan as First Officer and Science Officer so they backdoored T-Pol as XO.) They forgot or ignored that Spock was a Federation Officer assigned to a federation Starship from the Git Go. So Spock being XO and Science Officer would be in the chain of command on his Enterprise.

Believe this was why there was no first Officer on Enterprise from the start as in all of the other Star Trek Series. So Bnb could shoehorn T-Pol in as XO

In reality this would not fly at all. but Eterprise was a TV show so anything goes.

I had moral problems with Similitude - but I have to remind myself that 1) Sim as not a human being, just a replica of one 2) He was absolutely positively going to die within 2 weeks no matter what - he was born to die and have a short life 3) I take the adage of the "needs of the many outwiegh the needs of the few or the one"seriously, no matter where it came from. I have no problem with the taking of the warp engine in order to save billions of humans on earth. Not an easy decision, but one I would have made.

I don't think Archer and Phlox were fully aware of what was going to happen when the decided to create Sim. It turned out to be way more complicated than they had anticipated.

As far as Trip's reaction, yeah, I think he'd be a bit freaked out by the whole thing, but he'd get over it.

These are precisely the reasons I think Trip *would* be so outraged. No I don't think he would "get over it" as much as accept it.

I think Trip wouldn't be outrageous precisely because he would be too hurt. When something hurts Trip, really hurts him, he doesn't react, he lets it root in his soul, until he can't bear it anymore.
