You're correct on the branch but I wasn't quite there. I was an officer candidate at OCS, MCB-Quantico for 5 weeks. I dis-enrolled on request, but I think about returning as a reservist.

My extended family is Air Force and Navy. So I get it. Did you have the "haircut"? Actually I liked SG & SGA Because of the Air Force, my grandparents met in the AF so I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that. Besides I like fast planes and pilots.

High & tight? Oh yeah. It was actually a little overboard, we had to have haircuts every Thursday. What was crazy was we were there for about a week, getting to know all the guys in my platoon, and then all of the sudden nobody had any hair. Had to re-learn who everybody was again!

 Yeah seeing pictures of my Aunt's husband in his active days is a shock. Navy helo pilot. Jack's hair cut in the movie was the best "High & tight" my sis had ever seen. She's a hair dresser and used to do some when she lived in the states.

I was originally an air contract for Marine Aviation Air Wing until I tested color blind. I wanted to fly either the AH-1Z, C-130 Herc, or the JSF.

ooooooooh Impressive. just label your socks. Actually when SG first came on oh I was young... Anyway since my Grammy was in the AF she LOVED it. Hey her three favorite things are AF, Aliens, and MacGyver! Homerun. So she got me into it, I was like "Grammy since when is the AF so gun happy?" She's like just because your grandfather and I were radio specialists doesn't mean the AF's for wimps. She never did get into Atlantis though, IDK why. Probably didn't like the actors.

I would have LOVED it if Daniel had been in Atlantis more. I mean hey the guy acended TWICE. He deserved to explore.

All my socks are still labeled! Underwear and green PT shirts too! Our small bag issue we actually had to buy ourselves, so it was nice stuff... like under armour socks, dr. scholls in-soles, stuff like that.

I liked Atlantis the most for military related reasons too -- they had lots of Marines on it. The thing that always made me mad about Stargate was they had no sense of combat orientation with respect to the weapons they carried. Not once, even in Atlantis, did I ever see them carrying an M4 or M4-style carbine. If they wanted to stay futuristic they could have carried an HK 416 or FN SCAR or XM8 like our special forces do. But the problem I always had with it was that TNG had the excuse for failing at military realism by the fact that it wasn't a military show... but Stargate WAS a military show! So they should have had more sense. They would go to a planet where they know they are going to engage an enemy in open field combat at like 400, 500, 600+ meters... and they'd take P90's! The P90's range is limited to like 100-150 meters tops. Those made sense for like corridor fighting on Ha'taks and stuff... large magazines, high rate of fire, AP ammunition for the armor the Jaffe wore, very compact and easy to carry... But in open field, it makes no sense. They finally started showing a few guys with M249's in very special situations, like the 2-parter battle royale episodes with replicators or something like that. But they should have been carrying 5.56 or 6.8mm SPC carbines for quite a bit of the show.

In terms of super cool applications of modern weaponry that they made look futuristic... BSG gets the award for the use of the Beretta CX4 Storm as the weapon of choice of Colonial Marines and the FN Fiveseven pistol (with the added underbarrel rocket attachment) as the Colonial Officer standard issue sidearm.

I remember early on thinking it was a Fiveseven... and then later came to be pretty sure I was right even though I had no confirmation... then one day, like late season 4, Adama puts his sidearm to his own head in an argument with Tigh, and on Sci-Fi HD on our 47" HD LCD TV I caught a glimmer or something & paused it... went back... and sure enough, saw the print on the side of the weapon, "FNH 5.7x28", for Fabrique Nationale - Herstal, the Belgian company that makes the Fiveseven.

Incidentally, most people don't know this but Fabrique Nationale actually makes 70% of the United States Military's small arms, even though Colt holds the patent on the M16. (they're manufactured domestically, though).

"Gun Powder and Lead" Boy make sure the girl you marry doesn't like firearms as much as you do. I think they used P-90's so they didn't have to aim. Me I prefer melee and hand-to-hand combat. It's pretty easy to pull a trigger and killing should NEVER be easy.

I understand that philosophy... Einstein once said that he hoped that one day our humanity would grow to such a height as our technology had. For a CIA operative to control a Predator drone from a joystick console and a computer screen in front of him and click a button to fire a 600 lb hellfire missile that can make swiss cheese of tanks with 2 ft of solid steel armor, makes you wonder sometimes if we are as conscious about how we deploy military force as we could be.

LOL, I need to make sure I don't marry a woman that's gonna be waiting at home with a shotgun? Hopefully I won't do anything to deserve it!

You'd still have to aim w/ a P90... in fact, I've never fired one, but any weapon on full auto is a SERIOUS challenge to control. I have an AK47 that has some kind of problem with the sear in the trigger group (shhh.... don't tell the ATF...) and it sometimes double-taps. Like I'll pull the trigger and it will fire two rounds. But that second round goes wild, I mean the recoil on the AK is serious, but just about any full auto weapon is going to jump around. The new MP7 SMG is a freak of nature exception. That thing is creepy accurate. That's sort of another reason I'm getting rid of it, it's a bit of a liability. I don't feel like spending another $100 or $200 sending it to a gunsmith to be fixed or buying a new trigger. If anything I would just pay the $200 Class III tax and buy a REAL full auto AK sear so my rifle could be legally full auto... but I don't want to do that either. It's too expensive to own, maintain and shoot two assault rifles. I am going to keep my M4 and sell the AK. Anyway, way off topic...

All in all, I loved Atlantis. One of the coolest sci-fi military scenes ever broadcast was the night time raid/standoff with the Wraith in the season finale to Season 1... "The Siege". With the rail guns and the Marines firing M249's and M240's mounted on the window railings and the AT4's and the Javelin missiles! AHH!! It was great.

The final Dominion battle in DS9's "What You Leave Behind" is a very close second.

You're scary! Me hated DS9, aside from the O'Brians I didn't give a hang about anyone. They're SUPPOSED to make some SGA movies, I hope so... They seriously need to get Carson back with his red-headed marine, give the cute one, I forget his name, something to do, Bring Elizabeth back, and answer some questions. Hopefully SGU will be interesting, but I can't say the cast looks too interesting.

Hmmmmm. IDK all that fire power makes me think OK... Be careful with this one. Nah you seem nice. Well of course you remember Carson's red-head, we saw a LOT of her. Who was the sweet one? The one Sheppered took under his wing? He was cute.

I forget, who was Carson's cute Marine?

I recall him hitting it of with Nikki deBoer ( ) who guest-starred in one episode.
She's got an awfully nice bum!
