Well, by "ship" I don't mean I went on a board and wrote fanfic for it or any of that. I just cheered it on! Oh man if yall haven't seen Journeyman, if you're a hopeless romantic like me, you have to just for the romantic plot. It's priceless.... Man's love of his life dies, leaving him heartbroken, he moves on but always has a hole in his heart, and one day... BAM, she reappears and they share a very UNIQUE and amazing ability. Weird. I loved it. But they canceled it after just one season! :explode:

There's probably even more I'm not thinking of... OH! OH GOD! OH GOD, OH GOD! I totally forgot about the entire Stargate franchise!!!

Sam/Jack

Sheppard/Weir

Daniel/Vala

Rodney/Kate (I think that was her name, the bio chick)

Dr. Keller/Ronon (totally! Get away Rodney! Got your own chick!)

AlthougH i have to admit that Keller/Rodney managed to grow on me somehow, idk how.

Watching The X-Files I cannot remember ever thinking about them in couple terms, not even as a potential couple. It just never registered with me. To me they seemed more like colleagues and very close friends. Perhaps it was too subtle...? :?

And I never ever saw Chakotay/Janeway either. That never registered with me either. I still often think that it might be something those shippers just imagine.

I agree. I never saw Mulder/Scully as a romantic pairing. Not even after the first movie/almost kiss or the finale. Just didn't get a vibe there. And I always thought Janeway was too much woman for the tree to handle. So I never got that one, either.

I recall a discussion at TBBS some years back that seemed to boil down to that Trip/T'Pol tended to draw out more male 'shippers than other pairings. So maybe there's something about TnT that can get even males to become invested in them. I guess that would apply to me, since I've not seriously "shipped" for any other pairing.

I think other than TnT, I only ever shipped for Jack/Sam from SG-1. I think part of me could always see a potential something in Picard/Crusher, but I never actively 'shipped for them. So maybe there is something to that analysis. Image

This is really interesting. Mulder and Scully teased and argued with each other in similar ways to Trip and T'Pol, to my mind. I'll agree the damned thing probably jumped the shark into ridiculous unlikeliness by the third or fourth season, prompting a mass exodus into fanfic just to make things right ... but to not see any potential at all? I kind of understood the noromos who saw that it was there but felt it SHOULDN'T be, but to just not see it really puzzles me.

So did you 'see' Trip and T'Pol in the first two seasons, or just after the NP started?

What else is different? Scully is not the hot babe T'Pol was (at least she wasn't at first). Trip is not a haunted nutcase like Mulder.
I'm just curious about how perceptions can be so different.

Daniel/Vala GOD NO!!!!!!!! Ronan/Keller????????? In what universe do they have ANYTHING in common? Just because his first wife was a doctor doesn't mean SHE is right for him. As for Mulder and Scully he's nuts about her, and girls sometimes like wierd. We love to understand things. As for a male female thing, people can lie over the interenet. How can you really know?

"Noromos"? What's that? X-Philese for "no romance" or something?

And yeah, I really didn't see it. No potential, no nothing. Granted I was never a true fan that obsessed with every minutiae of that show, and tended to watch it mostly for the alien conspiracy stuff.

So did you 'see' Trip and T'Pol in the first two seasons, or just after the NP started?

I saw the TnT potential from the very beginning, with the first non-handshake in Broken Bow.

I have never found Gillian Anderson that attractive. She's not ugly or anything. She just doesn't "do it" for me. And I never thought Mulder was a very appealing character either, what with him being a conspiracy nut and all.

One theory I have about 'shipping is that one of the conditions for someone to be able to ship is not just that they have to find the pairing appealing, but that they also have to like the characters in their own right. And even without TnT I really like both Trip and T'Pol as characters.

I guess from my point of view a woman responsible for running a ship's hospital, and eventually Starfleet medical is a MUCH bigger deal. Growing up in hospitals you learn very quickly that it is VERY VERY male dominated and gender DOES come into play more often than most people would dream. House and ER weren't around, and unfortunately, their very unrealistic about gender in medical politics. Added to that she was a single mom in a time when being a single mom still carried a stigma socially I thought was really profound even at a very young age. I didn't have a female doctor until I was 7!!!!! I chalk this one up to having a completely different life. But if I remember correctly Tasha always seemed ashamed of her feminimity.

As the child of a single parent in the 70s and 80s, I'm not sure what you mean by "stigmatized." My mother was a widow before her 20th birthday...but honestly, by the mid-70s, divorce was getting quite, ah, popular...and lots of kids were living in single parent families.

My mother is a registered nurse, so I've also grown up knowing a little bit about how hospitals and their politics work. I also saw and knew of enough female doctors to know that women had progressed quite far into that profession. And House and ER did not write the book on medical dramas. Ever hear of a little show called St. Elsewhere? Easily one of the most popular shows of the early-mid 80s.

So being an only child of a single mom family with the parent working in a medical field, albeit not a doctor, I can perhaps relate to the Crusher family a lot more than most people.

Tasha was not ashamed of her femininity. She obviously came from a troubled past where she was basically a slave...and had been addicted to drugs at some point. She felt that others had perceived her as being hard, and she wanted to show Data the smoldering sex pot within.

I have to say I'm with Alelou. Now as a show the X-Files isn't really my thing sometimes it gets a little too into spirits and such. But for just the wierd stuff and aliens it was great. And honestly Mulder and Scully didn't even have to be speaking to each other in a scene, their body-language, and their eyes said everything. That being said, when they DID speak, the tones and semantics radiated such intensity that I got goosebumps. Now they're not Josh and Donna or Booth and Bones because they were both so screwed up individually. But they had heat, but it was in their souls not just lust, or chemistry.

Well you're very fortunate Aquarius, but when I was a kid having one parent still got you looks. And none of the hospitals I was in ever had women that were respected until well into my adolecance.

Given that I'm a good 15 years older than you I'm surprised that things are so far behind wherever you are. It's not like Lansing, MI was all THAT progressive in the 70s and 80s, to be that much ahead of the hospitals you were in and the people who worked in them, and the critics of the poor children who had to be raised by one parent through no fault of their own...

I'm a Long Island girl so I'm shocked too. But hey geography doesn't equal enlightenment. BTW you made me a year older if you were honest in your profile. I'm only 25. And that's old enough. :( Actually, it isn't that suprising about the hospital thing, I spent a good chunk of time at NYU, Columbia, all of the teaching hospitals, nurses were one thing, doctors and surgons were another. And believe me, they were and are boys clubs for the most part. And it ticked me off.

Actually I'm wierd because I don't have to like the characters to want them to get together, sometimes they're just more annoying not being together. Case in point Tony and Ziva on NCIS... I don't like either of them much, Tony is pushing 40 and he's a frat boy. Ziva been in her new life almost 5 years and she's still too uptight and witchy at times. But honestly I want them to get together simply to stop the whining! I'm sick of them acting like pre-schoolers when one of them has a date. It was cute for about one season but now I'm just like GROW UP! And don't say anything about rule 12 because Gibbs only has that rule to see who's got the guts to tell him it's bogus.

Other than TnT, my Trek ships are Reed/Sato, Paris/Torres and Worf/Jadzia. I like Riker/Troi well enough but it's not the same level of shipping.

I'm at the end of season 6 of SG1 now, and I'm still basically 'meh' about Jack/Sam. I get that it's canon - we've been hit over the head with it - but I can't say I actively ship for it. It doesn't bother me but I can't get up really active interest. Tony/Ziva is pretty much the same boat, with slightly more interest. WarpGirl has a point, though, that the UST there has kind of dragged to the point of ridiculous.

Unless House gets some serious help, I don't think he's really fit to have a relationship.

As for Doctor Who, I read a story with some serious Doctor/Jack subtext (it's got to be serious if I pick up on it, generally speaking) and was vaguely intrigued, since both of them are always losing people and saving the world.

Haven't seen SVU in a while, but I used to have interest in the obvious Benson/Stabler.

Well I thought to mention the ENT pairings was too obvious. I was a HUGE Nick/Sara shipper for CSI. When they did the GSR I stopped watching, heck Jorja Fox and George Eads said a million time they wanted their characters to hook up. Jorja said that Sara fixating on Grissom was unhealthy and immature, and she was right. He treated her like a pair of old shoes. It was just disgusting. Now I like Grissom, he's interesting, and a good man but SCREWED up to the hilt. He should have either stuck with Lady Heather or Catherine, because GSR is NOT a balanced relationship. They RUINED one of my favorite shows!!!!!! :bitch:

I am not really a big shipper other than couples in the ENT series. Of course Trip/T'Pol, but I'm fairly big on Soval/Amanda Cole. If your reaction to that is "What?!?" - blame it on ShouldKnowBetter over on Trip/T'Polers, especially her stories on Soval's Annex. There are a few of us who got into that and wrote some fan fic stories about it.
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Why "What"? I read your stories and they are great.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.
