Many adults and late teens ought to know what their doing but they still manage to mess up when it comes to this. Look we know it happened, for good or ill it really doesn't matter. I just believe the "He's a guy that's what he's SUPPOSED to do" is complete bull. If someone came up with another reason I might by it.

I think it's very possible after the scene faded out that Trip would have said something like, "TPol, are you sure about this?" She would assure him that she was of course, because she had been wanting this for some time and doing a lot of research on human sexuality. And she fond him to be ber very "asthetically pleasing." Not that she would tell him that. I don't think it was just crazy frenzied sex. I would also bet that Trip is not a selfish lover based on the way he acts the rest of the time. He's a very sweet, thoughtful guy and he really does care about her at this point.

Like I said either way that really doesn't matter to me personally. I just object to the whole line of reasoning that that is how a man in love has to react. Oh well I'm not changing my mind but I can see why people think that whole scene is so important. Me I think it's orverrated compared to other scenes I find more intimate.

It's not just that scene it's that all all those other scenes you find so intimate that make it important. He didn't just have sex with her he made love and wanted a relationship with her. If he didn't he most likely would have skipped the morning after talk. He also may have been hurt by her reaction but he wasn't crushed or he wouldn't have suggested continuing the NP. It doesn't matter how long you wait to have sex the first time it's always awkward and holds the potential to be a disaster for many reasons. Doesn't make it any less important to the parties involved. And I don't think he just jumped her. He made love to a woman he'd come to trust and care about.

You see it that way and that's fine but I would think that IF it was so important and intimate he would have at least tried to put up a fight or said something along those lines during their talk at breakfast. Instead nothing, ziltch, nadda. He gave no verbal indication that TO HIM it was very important. Now does that mean it wasn't? Nope. So I find it overrated.

He has stated before his track record sucks so he may be a little hesitant to put his heart out there anymore than he already has so she can crush it. To me he was hurt but saw something that made him back off but kept things open between them. NP was intimate and it gave him a way to ease fears on both sides. And judging from things implied later it must have worked because they remained close and most likely engaged in a sexual relationship. If they were just friends and not involved he would have had no reason to question what her mother knew about him or why she brought him to Vulcan when she told him about her marriage.

Hey, that whole scene is about finally admitting they're attracted to each other. I love that scene because of its bantering, and because Trip pushed her just a little, really, took his first real emotional risk with her -- and then a little more of one, mostly just because he could tell she was hurt by his denial -- and BAM! He got more than he'd ever imagined.

But I think Aikiweezie is right, too. He would have attempted to figure out what the hell was going on, even WITH all that diminished blood flow to the brain. Personally I imagine he'd keep trying to clarify, and she'd keep shutting him up, and then probably the ole' tactical alert would step in, although I'm not positive about that because when that happens they both seem pretty comfortably ensconced at their stations even though it's the middle of the night.

That works for me. Men are very visual and once her clothes came off and she kissed him and continued to kiss him the brain waves would have slowed down, especially because he desired her. I'm sure she would have done enough research to know exactly how a human male would react to any and all stimulus. Her goal was to claim him. It was consistent with human behavior and also Vulcans. They do after all claim their mate during Pon Farr and bond.

I liked that thought, Alelou. So they talk, kiss, red alert. Both are happy at their stations. So what happened between "stations" and "the breakfast". (Maybe T'Pol hadn't read the awful lines the writers gave her :D )

All I know is that I could have accepted it better if he had just said "T'Pol it was important to me. I'm not going to push you but you have to understand that." As for the rest a good make out session could have sealed the addmittence of attraction just as well as a roll in the hey. And with that I'm going to attempt to bow out gracefully.

I'm not saying it ended with nothing but kissing. I'm saying a tactical alert got in the way of any attempts by Trip to clarify things afterwards -- which is why it happened instead, extremely awkwardly, the next morning. When he was a weenie -- but even if he hadn't been a weenie, a panicking T'Pol might well have shut him down at that point. Indeed, by being a weenie he might have saved just enough face to allow him to keep trying (later).

Um I can't buy that one AT ALL. Vulcan woman are biologically hardwired not to respond to weenies. T'Pring was a genetic freak.

Kotik

The thing is, that it was completely misplaced. They were at a very difficult, deadly serious mission, Trip was still grief-stricken or even in denial over his sister. That's not the ideal ground for a night of passionate lovemaking. And the scene in the mess hall is second only to *the_abomination* in term of how fast and hard I punch the hate button.

They admit their mutual affection, she kisses the daylights out of him and next morning she shoots him down. Sorry, but even a Vulcan would never willingly hurt a person that she cares for, the whole concept was just to add some T&A followed by a hideous scene to fall back into the usual regime of contrived angst. If it weren't for the hilarious banter before the kiss, the whole episode would be pointless.

Well, I think it's clear that they did a bit more then just kissing. And I agree with Kotik, the whole breakfast scene makes everything before rather pointless (unless you can come up with some explanation.)

:happyjump: :happyjump: :happyjump: :happyjump: :happyjump: So much for bowing out gracefully, but I did say it was an attempt. Also the whole jealousy thing is really a recipy for disaster. Add Trellium and well... BTW Kotik welcome and you ROCK! Sorry I forgot to say welcome sooner. Hey Panysan, what explanation can possibly be used that turns them into responsible rational adults in command poisitions on a starship?
