Simply FYI! Inventor of velcro from episode Carbon Creek

Postby dialee » Tue Aug 18, 2009 1:13 am

In the episode, Carbon Creek, T'Mir sells a bag with velcro to a copyright company?? for money to help with the boy's college tuition and expenses.

For those of you who were worried that T'Mir might have usurped the historical significance of the person who invented velcro. Not to worry, the inventor who developed velcro after he noticed burrs sticking to his dog and his own clothes as they walked was a Swiss engineer by the name of George de Mestral. Perhaps the writers of Enterprise had some writing imagination and ingenuity after all. ;-)

Good for that writer. He did his homework. Now how hard was that, people? They bothered to look up the name of the guy who invented velcro but nobody looked up ponfarr? :vulcan:

Amen Distracted! They could have done that more often and made a great show, instead it was at worst; insepid, and uninspired. And at best, the bare bones that dressed properly, could have had greatness. Alas, they were never dressed properly. :(

He wanted to study engineering, right? Is that what the real inventor studied?

I know that back then the fields were all kind of melded together (hell I met a NASA specialist in cyrogenics whose first major was mechanical...) but it seems like velcro would fit more into a physicist's field... something like applied materials' or .... god, I don't know, haha.
