I suspect T'Pol's initial reaction to that would be sheer confusion about what possible motivation someone could have to do something like that when it clearly isn't true. It's not as if the humans she hangs out with are ever that tacky.

Other crew on Enterprise would react more strongly.

(Apparently Trip's taste in previous girlfriends really sucks?)

Really? I didn't get that impressiom I mean the three woman he was interested in (excluding T'Pol) weren't really relationships. I don't think you could call Ah'len, Liana, and Princess fishstick girlfriends. Especially since he technically only had human sex with Princess Fishstick and then she disappeared. Whoes to say that Trip's "3 serieous relationships" were with women of low calliber or character? Well in fanfic we can and it's fun. I admit as seeing Natalie as a cheating tramp. But that's not to say she was always like that. I think Trip tries to pick smart, accomplished, women.

I meant that Natalie as proposed was obviously a woman of questionable value, not that I personally would expect Trip to have skanky girlfriends.

I think in our loyalty to T'Pol we tend to want to think the worse of any other love interest he's had. At the very least, we conclude those idiots either didn't understand that they had God's gift to women right there in their grip, or they were in some way so unworthy that they forced our saintly Trip to dump them.

Of course, there's also the reality that Trip fell for T'Pol, so clearly he can be attracted to someone who can be a little baffling, emotionally witholding and (unintentionally) cruel at times... Personally, I'd expect his ex's to possess strong wills, intelligence, a sense of humor, a certain aloofness, and/or different priorities in life than he had when he knew them.

Well I don't think T'Pol was cruel even unintentionally. Personally I take Natalie as "the exception" with my idea of her cheating on him. The truth is I can't stand anybody breaking up ith someone through a letter. She could have called him on subspace. I had a long distance relationship too, and when we ended it at least I could hear his voice, at least he could say goodbye. So nope I don't like Natalie. But it's not out of loyalty to T'Pol. I do not think Trip is a saint either! ABSOLUTELY NOT! It's just that I don't like those kind of women of my own species. There have been other "ships" I've followed where I might not like it if the character dates another person, but that doesn't automatically mean I assume they are the scum of the earth either.

Back to T'Pol's reaction. I'm not sure she would be confused. I mean she learned a lot of lessons about human female behavior over the years good and bad.

PS My ex is now the proud uncle of a little boy who looks EXACTLY like him. The little boy's mama is my best friend.

Good points. Or maybe Natalie is caught up in a media circus after a couple of people took her words out of context? A classic case of bad journalism? I don't think she is a bimbo, maybe a bit shallow and the breaking up with a letter doesn't sit well with me, but I don't think she is a mean person.

Just reminds me of a story about Trip taking T'Pol home and his mother invites Malibu barbie. I don't consider it a TnT classic, but it was fun to read. Don't know the name.

I remember reading a story like that Panysaan I sure wish i could remember who wrote it.When it came to Natalie sending Trip a Dear John letter I think he was really hurt by whatever was in that letter from the reaction he gave Archer when he asked about Natalie and that letter.Anyway that's what I thought of whenever I saw that scene in Silent enemy.

Ooops. Sorry thought it was something else. Anyway yeah don't like Natalie I think she cheated on him. But his other two serious relationships I tend to think were nice, smart, accomplished women. Even Natalie in the beginning I think would fit that mold, accept I think when he got assigned to Enterprise she decided she wasn't going to sleep alone and found someone new.

I think T'Pol would be very upset about it. So I can see her saying something, what though is the question.

You know that whole communicating home thing was kind of vague on the show. Could they communicate back and forth on subspace with friends and family or not? When Trip says he's catching up in Silent Enemy it didn't sound like he could just get on the phone, so to speak. T'Pol didn't seem to be able to communicate directly with her mother or vice versa. Yet whenever the story called for it, Archer would talk to Forrest in real time or Hoshi would talk to the Reeds, or whatever. I personally would have preferred the idea that there would be a time delay because of the vast distances, but that's not how they showed it. So if that's the case, why couldn't the crew just talk in real time to their loved ones?

And since we almost always see people dictating their letters, does that mean their letters are in fact oral, or written? (The real answer is probably simply that it allows the viewer to hear it.)

My thing is that the communications were sometimes out sometimes on but Archer could ALWAYS call Starfleet. Yeah right!

It's by TLR and was unfinished. To tell the honest truth that one disappointed me SO much. The first part was extremely good, but then the second part got into cliched romance novel territory. I was heartbroken.

It was. Also in the beginning I had the idea the Natalie would talk to press and said those things, but now I am thinking more in the lines of she ending up in a media mess, partly her fault, partly the fault of people who wanted to have headline to get viewers. More complex.
I always been sort of curious what the media would looked in the time of TnT. Since the 80-ties with the 24/7 news - we need more "breaking news" so people will view us and our sponsors would be happy - old school journalism is becoming less. Sound bites are more important then simple facts. Not always, but I still think it's a bad development. Sorry - way to much off topic.

No it's not off topic. Hmm well Travis' girlfriend Gannet's cover Identity was a reporter. And there were reporters in Demons and the media were heavily used in Terra Prime. Personally and please discard this if it doesn't fit in your vision, I would hope the media has changed from today. No paprazzi and more commitment to the facts. Not to say that rouge sleezy journalists wouldn't exist. But I hope it would be something condemed and not highly practiced.
