A women looking at the museum recognized him and asked for his autograph which he gave her. But her young son, about six years old, was not very impressed. The boy had seen the movie with Tom Hanks, so he went over to Jim Lovell and kicked him in the shin saying "you're not Jim Lovell!"

We just had the opening of our parliament (Congres) year (with the speech of the Queen) and the tradition is that women wear hats. Some people use the hat for a political statement.
So for entertainment purpose, members of parliament showing their hats (translation for those who need it: hoedjes - hats, Prinsjesdag - Opening of parliament year).

Wow cool some of those hats were amazing, and some were amazingly awful. I don't understand why "royal" or political hats never seem to change a lot over the years. Some of them are so plain and doudy. BUT There were three that I would personally love to have!

Wow, that was pretty entertaining. I admit I always click on the pictures of stars going down the red carpet at awards shows to see the most amazingly good and bad dresses.

Me too! Although I have to admit sometimes I start screaming at the TV. "If you want to wear a completely strapless dress wear some jewelry." Stuff like that.

Did you noticed the hat of the lady of the Vegi-party :vulcan:, the one with the banner "No meat mondays"?

Powwow time at the University of Wisconsin! These first two photos were blurry mistakes - moved the camera too fast. But they are kind of pretty with the movement and colors, sort of an essence of powwow abstract.

I was looking at Dylan's asymmetrical haircut and remembering that when Europeans came to the "New World" the records show they were very impressed with the asymmetrical haricuts of the American Natives. Not only were the haircuts asymmetrical, but each person had a haircut very different from the next. Very individual. Asymmetrical haircuts briefly became high fashion in Europe. (If I remember correctly).

LOVED the pictures, Linda! Thanks for posting. Was the Pow Wow for a particular Nation, or region? Pardon my ignorance, I have friends of various Native American descent, but I never knew how Pow Wow's work, even though I've been to a few. My husband is part, a very small part, Mississippi Chocktaw, certified but his famly is not associatied with any group.

Aikiweezie, powwows are mostly intertribal when held in urban areas or on public lands. There are also powwows on reservations which would mostly be attended by just the people of that tribe. We go to the public ones in the Milwaukee area. This one at the university is sponsored by the Native American student group. It has a few competition dances by category of dance. There is the two step (couples dance), grass dance, traditional mens and women's dances, women's jingle dress (healers), fancy shawl, men's fancy dance. But mostly at this powwow there are intertribal dances, each lasting a few minutes, which anyone can do. It is considered an educational event so non Native Americans are encouraged to join in and try dancing. Also there is food sold by the students as a fund raiser for their activities during the school year. Vendors rent space along the edge of the room and you can buy beadwork items and other Native art.

My favorite dance is the crow hop. You make little jumps and sideways movements as you go around the circle like you are a bird walking around on the ground. I think Dylan's latest hair cut is attractive but is getting a little long, LOL. It hides his face a lot but is too short to tie back. And Skyelar's hair is of course dyed. She does have strawberry blond hair, but Dylan and Image dye it red for fun. She is the only girl in kindergarten with dyed hair! I guess Indian Community School tolerates it as no one has commented on it from the school. Dying hair is kind of a cabin fever activity the kids in our family indulge in during the long winter...other than computer games and snow boarding and sledding down hills.

Oh, by the way, there was one young man with short black hair that looked very much like a Vulcan hair cut. He also had kind of semi-slanted eyebrows and a rich tan skin color. Very handsome. Maybe he is a Vulcan studying Humans by blending in (very well) with the Native American population? Darn, I didn't think of taking his photo! He and his partner got second place in the couples dance.

Thanks, Linda!
