I can't believe how low my standards have gotten for an acceptable "outside appearance". I'll go to the grocery store in almost anything. So it was nice to get the girls and me all prettied up for a change for the Xmas party. Aureilia even held still long enough to let me put French braids in her hair!

I like that Kagami Biraki idea! The cracker stuff probably doesn't taste too good though after a few days out.
I used to be a "career woman," skirts, heels, jewelry, etc., every day but now, not so much! However I made a vow when I became a mother, I would shower, get dressed, do my hair and makeup every day NO MATTER WHAT. Even if I didn't go out. Unless I was sick. Dying-sick. I love to get dressed up, but rarely get the chance. That's why I love Christmas Eve so much, I have to get a new dress!

What cracker stuff?????

I love to get dressed up, too. Everyone at the clinic wears scrubs, but I HATE them. Won't wear 'em ever again. I'd rather get disgusting bodily fluids on a new outfit and have to buy a new one than to ever wear a scrub suit again. I'm the only person at the office to wear street clothes under my white coat every day, usually something from Coldwater Creek. I started out doing it because when I wear scrubs everyone thinks I'm a nurse. (Not that there's anything wrong with being a nurse, but it confuses people... and I suffered through med school, dammit! I ought to get credit for that!) Now I do it because it's one way for me to express my individuality. I wore school uniforms during my entire elementary and high school career and scrubs (the medical profession's "school uniform") the last two years of med school and throughout residency. I'm tired of 'em

Ahhhh... So that's what "scrubs" means. I always wondered why the tv show Scrubs was called like that. Thanks for the info

Re: 2009 Holiday Photos Thread!
I actually find scrubs pretty sexy as long as they're not some really bizarre color. There's something about them that conveys the idea of a standardized uniform like "I'm a grunt" but in an intellectual way since it's the medical profession

I'll put my two cents worth in here about uniforrms also. Love em when someone else is wearing them and if the uniform is eye catching, like SOME of the Star Trek uniforms. Hate em if I have to wear them myself. Well, I don't mind my working uniform when on patrol in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, but we are supposed to wear a uniform to flotilla meetings and for watchstanding at the Coast Guard booth at boat shows. I will do it for the boat shows as the public spots a uniform and knows who to direct boating questions to. But I have resisted wearing them to the flotilla meetings. Accept for the next year, I have been elected Flotilla Commander and it is kind of expected that the person who runs the meetings be in uniform.
Darn.

Until a couple of years ago, I hated scrubs also. They are voluminous and square shaped and make everyone look about 45 lbs heavier. But NOW suddenly, there's a whole kimono style that's creeping in and so you get to have a waist again! My favourite pair have black pants and a shirt kind of like this one only instead of swirls, it's a similar black flower pattern.

Oh well. If Two Buck Chuck's from Trader Joe's can win the award for best chardonnay, why not Wal-Mart? Maybe they can get their grapes cheap from China...
(Is it Trader Joe's? How did Joe become Chuck? We haven't attracted one of those in our little market up here in the capital district yet.)

Re: 2009 Holiday Photos Thread!
Alright, back from scrubs to the theme of this thread. Here are some holiday photos from last year.
Dylan, my grandson, lighting a fire in the franklin stove in our living room.

The dinning room with tree and table set with snacks.

My granddaughters, Image, Shayla, and Skyelar in front of the fire.

The family getting ready to leave after a holiday visit: Jeff, Shayla, Pat, Heather, Skyelar, and my husband Jim sitting.

Dylan and Shayla in my daughter, Heather's apartment.

Dylan and Shayla, Image and Skyelar, at the dinner table in my daughter's apartment.

Jim and Jeff at the dinner table.

Jeff making a funny face, and me being caught by surprise that someone is taking a photo.

Shayla in her new car that runs on batteries.

He... I like these images!

Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

The red hair? LOL. It is dyed, you know. Her teenaged brother and sister did that. It is kind of a cabin fever thing. Dying hair is how we cope with a long hard winter. Oh, well, every family has its foibles, right?
