Re: Randomness
They troll the internet, usually on behalf of search engines, looking for stuff to update, and pass the info on to the search engine.
In a nutshell.

Well I know about Chatbots we have them at the kotor site, the bots are characters you can "talk to" a "buddy" of mine made a very hysterically accurate and funny one. So I'm not entirely clueless.

Re: Randomness
I spent the better part of the first day of the year 2010 putting up my two new bookshelves. I also did a move around of old bookshelves so that the ones I have will match up in different rooms. That meant having to take out all the books in two of the old ones. Phew!
But now I have the two new ones in my bedroom where I before had one old one. And guess what, after I put up the books in the new ones I of course found that they both filled up, with little space to spare.
That's because I had previously put books behind the front rows and then on top of the ones in the front row. This is bound to repeat itself when I rearrange the bookshelves in my living room. I just have so many books, and now 7½ bookshelves and still not enough room. But I do have space left in my bedroom for another one should I decide to get an additional one.

Time for a Kindle. That's what I did. Now I don't have to add a room to the house for all the books I'm going to buy in the next ten years.

Re: Randomness
I have maybe two freestanding bookshelves of books I can't part with. I generally pass along books I know I won't read again. Unfortunately, I have also have whole shelves of books I haven't read YET and those I don't let go until I become certain I never will. And that can take decades.
I find most of my books used at the library or the thrift shop or even at my hair dresser's where at least one person has similar taste to mine. And it would be very hard to read those on a Kindle. I have to admit I kind of would like to get a laptop someday so I can read online or downloaded stuff in bed or on the sofa or next to the woodstove, however.

Re: Randomness
The quick search of the word or phrase (and even the Full-Text Search Queries from some software), hyperlinks, many bookmarks, color marker are the great possibilities of the electronic texts. But I like reading the paper books, touch and see them and I am buying all the books which I like even after reading them in internet. I also have the problem of quick filling up new bookshelves. I am passing along all books which had not become my favorite. And I can reread some of my old books being tired for reading something new or being in the special mood.
Albeit Internet is indeed the handy tool but it is not really ready for the visual searching. The good memory and the book at hand are much better for it. So I keep my library though it happened from time to time the reproach for me because of many hours spent on such pleasant pastime.

Just a note that I will "be away" (whatever that means in this interconnected age)!!! I'll "be back" on Wednesday night! Going to an economics conference.

Re: Randomness
A Kindle...!? Nah, I prefer my books physical even if they do take up space. But then again both my parents used to be librarians (they're retired now) so it's in my blood.
I guess I worked too much putting up those shelves yesterday 'cause my body aches somewhat today.

Hot shower, hot bath, or a good stiff drink. Those help me when I ache. Then again I don't know what time it is in Swedan. Hmm...
