Hmm . . . "View your posts" or "View new Posts" in the right hand corner is a way to go.

Wish I had something to chat about. I'm back from the big Econ Con! At one point I was sitting two seats behind PAUL KRUGMAN!!! Nah, it's not as fun as a Star Trek con . . . .

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

is it bad if I really AM jealous because Paul Krugman's the man? And I totally thought he was cool before he won the nobel prize in econ

Alelou, Elessar, are you still jealous? It looks so much like an economics conference, I just had to take a picture.

So is that the back of Krugman's head up there in the first row?

Was it interesting? Or does it fly at such a high level that it gets tedious? And what do you find in the vendor room during an economics conference? (You guys?)

Wow, you are good. I think he might be the guy bending down. He was sitting right in front of me, two rows ahead, but he moved over, so that might be him. AND the guy at the front speaking is Emmanuel Saez talking on tax reform. And I already edited one of his papers. :happyjump:

What they have in the vendors room (these are all freebies): little bags of shredded money from the Federal Reserve, lol . . . Flash drives containing templates for submitting papers to the American Economic Review. Playing cards with pictures of famous economists. Beige and maroon M&Ms celebrating the 125th anniversary of the American Economic Association. Copies of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

So you're coming next time, right? We can room together. :D lol . . .

I might be up for that if it didn't cost me any money...

Kevin Hassett present anything? He's one of my brother's old high school friends.

The college writing center called and asked if I wanted any hours on staff there. Specifically including 7am-9am Friday. I'm sure that's why the English dept. told the guy to try me. I'll take it if they can promise not to open that fourth comp section on me, but I don't know if they can promise that.

That name is semi-familiar. I googled it and he writes with other authors that I do know. Next meeting is in Denver. The hotel room at least would be free! They always put us up in great rooms. Here are the city lights from my hotel room this time:

And I forgot to answer, that, yes, it really was interesting.

Today kind of kicked my ass, but not necessarily in a bad way.

Today was the first day of my yoga class. It's been years since my last one, and this is a more intense form than I'm used to, so I struggled. Still, I felt good when it was over. And I can't continue to fix my body if I DON'T do this.

I had a lot of walking around campus today. Well, it wasn't really a lot, but in the cold and the wind, it kind of sucked it out of me. And it was kind of my own fault, because I put off getting my parking permit until now, and our "free pass" in the commuter lot ended today.

After all that, I met up with two of my friends who live near EMU. One is my best friend, the other is someone I was close to in high school, and we're still friends but we just don't see each other much beyond talking on facebook here or there. Her husband passed away earlier this week. There's no funeral, but I wanted to see her so we decided to pick her up and go get something to eat. It was good to see her, and we decided to all make a regular thing of it.

But gosh, I'm tired!

I have a splendid memory of Denver. I was there on the occasion of an ASCO Congress and my family accompanied me (my daughter was at the beginning of her degree course at that time).
Really. A splendid city and a splendid region.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four

And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

I'm trying to imagine anyone wanting tutoring that early in the morning. It might be an easy job! :) Or is it an official class? I think at our college the place you go for help with writing was called a writing center. I remember getting some valuable help.

Asso, I was in Denver once, my senior year in highschool, for the start of a hiking trip. Yes, the mountains were amazing. Many happy memories, though I hated the actual hiking. I remember wishing a helicopter could just drop us off at the top.

Is yoga class for credit?

I have a story about the Empire State Building. I was working as an office temp in New York City way back when. I worked various places in the financial district, a few weeks or months at each, including I think a couple weeks in the basement of the World Trade Center, and a month in one of the shorter World Trade Center buildings that is now gone. Anyway, . . . these were REALLY low-level jobs so one day after being a phone customer service representative at a particular bank, my boss asked me to run to the Empire State Building to get coffee. I said, "OK, where is the Empire State Building?" Turns out it was right across the street, lol . . . In my own defense, it doesn't look that special from the street!!! And I never have been to the top.

I said, "You mean students actually show up that early in the morning?" and he said, "Well, someone has to be there just in case."

So I guess it might indeed be quite easy, for the first hour or so... it's just staffing to help students who come in, not teaching. No homework, no prep. Sounds kind of cool, except that I wouldn't have time to get to know the students well unless they become regulars.

I'm glad to know about it in any case, since I can now tell my 7:30 am classes that running out of toner the night before is absolutely not an excuse for not having a print-out in the morning.

From my experience with writing centers, the early hours are pretty quite until right before finals and midterms! Then, every hour gets booked.

But its a good, rewarding job. And it helps the student papers get better, which is a service to your fellow profs as well.
