I got kind of excited when they purged the registration at the college of all the non-payers yesterday evening and suddenly I only had 13 students registered for Comp 101. "Hey, maybe it will be an easy semester," I thought.

Bwa ha ha ha ha. Today it's already back up to 22.

And one of my problem children from 101 took advantage of the new space to get herself into my 102 section. Oh well. At least she's not the one with the oppositional disorder. Well, actually, she did get kicked into the alternative high school for oppositional disorder... LOL. I like her, though. She's got a mouth on her -- and she broke her elbow in a housing project fight in the middle of last semester -- but she worked hard and really improved her writing.

But she was also one of the worst cell phone offenders. Sigh.

I have a notorious "troubled student" registered for my class this semester. He was thrown out of two classes in our department and forced to work with our tough, battle-axe prof in order to finish the coursework. One of the profs who threw him out said that several of his students expressed fear that the guy would go "postal" on the class.

I'm just hoping he decides I assign too much reading and goes away. That's saved me a few times.

Not sure, it could be. There might be a hormonal connection.I have Jessica Simpson/Ken Paves headband fall for this type of thing but I hesitate to wear it unless I HAVE to.

Have you been sick? Or around anyone sick? Maybe your body is fighting off a bug, and making things worse.

I had a cold around Christmas and my husband just got over one. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what is a trigger for me.

This morning the college called to tell me that 101 course they had put on reserve that they had told me they almost certainly wouldn't need to open they really needed to open after all. Oh boy. So then I said I'd need to let the guy at the writing center know I don't really want to work for him anymore and started composing an email. Fifteen minutes later, I'm double-checking my grammar and tact on the email, I get another frantic call telling me never mind -- the college won't LET them open another section.

So this isn't really whining because 1) I hadn't hit send yet, and 2) now I feel like I escaped a really onerous schedule by THIIIIIIS much.

However, the dude at the writing center hasn't responded to me all week from our first correspondence. So I'm paranoid that I committed a typo in the first email to him. Not that it matters, since then I would have an even EASIER schedule, but still... DUDE. You seemed so frantic for me to tell you when I could meet you. At least respond back!!

It may have turned out alright, but I think it still counts as a whine because they wasted your time, since you had to spend time on that email that you ended up not needing.

My cat decided to use my arm and back for a scratching post. Now I know she likes to use the foot of my bed for it but shetts don't change themselves. Totally unfair and painful! :(

All of the stress in my life this week is courtesy of Tsar Alexander Alexandrovich Romanov III! That man has totally made my life a mess. You see it's like this... He was a cheapskate who got sick of shelling out tons of rubles to his family because it was crawling with Grand Dukes and Grand Duchesses. Now as if his family wasn't already complicated enough he decided to save cash that only sons and grandsons of the Tsar would have the title Grand Duke, and only daughters of the Tsar would be Grand Duchess. Granddaughters, and great grandsons would here after be known as Prince and Princesses of the Imperial Blood. Think it ends there? Oh no. If a Grand Duke or Grand Duchess married beneath their station, those kids were known as Serene Highnesses! Now here's the hard part. WHERE DOES EVERYONE SIT AT DINNER?????????????????? I have been scouring the net, my reference books, and every other resource I've got, I can't find the answer!

I would think with a family diner: the highest placed person sits on the end of the table (his wife on the other end of the table), the second highest placed person on his side on the right and left, then the third highest placed person next to them etc.

The only thing my reference book said was the Tsar sat at the head and the Tsaritsa sat at his right. Everyone else in rank order. OK fine what exactly IS rank order? What I mean is this... Is it age order? I know wives can't sit next to their husbands. What about children? It's making me INSANE. That's why I was talking in the 3rd person this morning.
