Well, that's how my mom got my dad to quit drinking. She put her foot down, told him she wasn't going to put up with it anymore, and packed a bag for each of them. She told him unless he took his bag and went to the treatment center she was taking her bag and leaving him. He went to the treatment center and has been sober now for over 30 years. Maybe you should tell your husband to go get therapy or else.

I should probably go get therapy myself. Hell, maybe we should ALL go get therapy. If only all the therapists I knew weren't so screwed up.

I have heard it said that people who major in psychology do so because they want to figure out what's wrong with themselves.

My dad went to live-in therapy 2 times in the last couple of years for drinking wine 24/7. Finished both times. Didn't stick either time. Now he lives on the streets. :( Facebooks my little sisters from the library and hassles them about their mother.

There's my depressing blurb for the day.

Though therapy certainly does help many out there. Just not all, alas.

However, it is definitely a must-try if things are awful. You can't deal with it in private. I watched my stepmom try to do that for 20 years. That's no good.

Getting someone to stop drinking is easy. You just put 'em somewhere where they can't get booze. It's fixing what's broken between the ears that makes people start drinking again... or abuse drugs... or emotionally punish themselves and other people... or fly into rages with minimal provocation... or all the other dysfunctional things that people do to themselves and each other...that's the hard part.

All people no matter what their imperfections major and minor don't change unless they want to change. And Hey we're all imperfect, that said I have seen people who have lived lives beyond all imagination change into amazing people.
Some of these people haven't taken their medication. Let's see what happens now...

My husband has been in and out of therapy for years and years, and that's no doubt another reason we're still together and also that he's not dead or in an alcoholic stupor, so I'm a big fan. I also got some myself eventually, just to cope with him. It was really helpful. Not having grown up with that stuff, I really needed to be able to put a name on what the hell was going on so I wouldn't think I was crazy. (Of course I did grow up with my own stuff -- we all do -- but not nearly as toxic as what he had to survive.)

I'm a little frustrated at my electric bill. Usually this is one of the lowest months, but I've been baking bread nearly every day (thanks to Artisanal Bread in Five Minutes a Day). The actual preheating and baking takes a lot longer than 5 minutes, of course. So, okay, I think I'm getting delicious bread and saving money in the process, but once I add the cost of the electric oven in, I think it might actually be cheaper to buy bread at the grocery store. Seriously, this is the highest bill I've had in a year, including the usually high air conditioning months, and I'm not even looking at dollars, I'm looking at kilowatts. Maybe it's time to get an electrician in to make sure something isn't sucking extra power because it's going bad? :(

That's weird because ours was about $100 extra this month too.

Thanks so much guys for the ringing endorsement! Actually my therapy really changed my life! There's a happy story for you. It's true that everyone has their own "stuff", including therapists, but that doesn't have to be a hindrance if they are capable. The key is understanding your "stuff", recognizing it and knowing where it comes from. Awareness is key. I'm starting school in May for this.

As for the drinking, Eric stopped 4 1/2 years ago without therapy or AA.

Sorry for the double post.

Don't forget, I'm minoring in it, so I'm probably just as guilty!

This semester I'm taking Psychology of Human Aging. I just did my essay on midlife crisis...on myself!! :wtf: :(

NYSEG? IS something fishy? Maybe I'd better go out in the cold and read the meter myself. We don't heat anything but the oven and the clothes dryer with electricity, so it just doesn't make sense.

Okay, the weather report says that it will be 32 today. So why is it still 15 degrees this late in the morning.

I think this is the thread we migraine sufferers moan to each other in. You might find these two articles in the New York Times helpful/interesting:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/30/healt ... nt.html?em
http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/2 ... treatment/

(Well, the first is the article, and the other is the blog with all the reactions to the article, but they are interesting.)

Yep. NYSEG. I thought it was pretty odd when I first saw our bill as well. Hmm...

It was some bearded dude instead of our usual meter reader. Maybe he read everybody's meter wrong.
