Re: Military Knowledge
My mind is set at ease! I don't have a problem with shooting, I love to watch that. I like to see someone skilled in what they do, actually doing it. And well on my favorite TV show (not any ST) leading man plays a former sniper for the Army Rangers so it's also cool to watch pretend shooting. I live in the mountains, there are bears. My dad has shot a bear, I have no problem with that. I have no problems with hunting FOR FOOD. I'm a pescatarian for health reasons, and animal processing is WORSE than hunting any day at all. I do have a problem with assualt with a deadly weapon and murder. But self-defense or in defense of others I'm ok, as long as every other option is gone. I love the Matrix too! Guns lots of guns. So I'm not too scared.
Oh well Off to search for my dinner party. 4 days I've been searching and I've got nothing!

Re: Military Knowledge
Does anyone know why the military doesn't carry P90's? I don't know just random question. Because M16's are heavy. I took apart a SAW yesterday. That was awesome.
Re: Military Knowledge
Because FN P90 is a submachine gun and dosen't have the penetrating power nor the range of an assault rifle. The P90 does look cool though. P90 is used by special forces and swat, also the Secret Service uses it. http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg13-e.htm

Re: Military Knowledge
Well I guess this was bound to happen. Please tell me guns in the 1900's weren't so complicated.

Re: Military Knowledge
At that time the infantry guns were simple bolt action rifles.

Re: Military Knowledge
Why didn't anybody poke me?!
The P90's great but this is why I didn't agree with its universal use in Stargate SG1: it doesn't have range. I would disagree that it doesn't have "stopping power". It has SOME stopping power, it just doesn't have as much as 5.56 NATO (the M16 round). It has some, though. The SS190 duty cartridge AP round that the militaries who use the P90 system use, will penetrate Level IIIa body armor... which is a common military and police standard. Two conditions:
1. civilians can't buy SS190 ammo
2. civilians can't buy short barrel P90's
Civilian "PS90's" are longer barreled. You might ask, 'why?' since a longer barrel makes it MORE accurate. The answer is that the SBR version (Short barreled rifle) is easier to conceal and considered more of an assault weapon.
I have a fiveseven now, btw
Idk if I told everyone that.
The Fiveseven and the P90 are like little brother and big brother. FN (Fabrique Nationale) created them to go together, and they shoot the same round - a 5.7x28mm bottlenecked armor piercing round. (armor piercing only in the SS190 duty cartridge configuration). All LEGALLY sold civilian ammo is NOT AP. I have some pretty hot hollow points (fast), but they are not rated to penetrate body armor. The Fiveseven is a pistol btw, meant to be issued alongside the P90 to share ammo. The Fiveseven is a very lethal weapon, though. One would be unwise to doubt the lethality of the 5.7mm round, or the overall lethality of the Fiveseven pistol with its standard 20 round magazine and high capacity 30 round magazine (yes, it's a PISTOL!). Especially since the Fort Hood shooter used one.
Will they penetrate car doors? Heavy clothing? 2" of solid oak? Absolutely. All of the above. A brick wall? Probably, depends on the density and the thickness. A steel plate? Maybe. Thickness. So will some pistol rounds and so will just about EVERY rifle round .270 caliber or higher. No real way around that. This "AP" question is one of much contention between military/non-military folks.
What was I saying?
yes! bolt action weapons were much simpler! Simpler, more reliable, and for the most part in their original factory condition, more accurate.... but basically? Slower.

Re: Military Knowledge
God I swear man you're the sweetest scary gun geek I have ever come into contact with. And where I live that's saying something. Actually I saw this rifle factory commercial on last night and said "Mom I wonder if Elessar owns one of these rifles." Of course I forget the name now!
Oh and...

Re: Military Knowledge
Well the P90 has a smaller stopping power compared to an assault rifle. Another thing I have heard is that the H&K MP7 PDW has a more powerful cartridge than the P90 but P90 is way cooler.

The 4.6x30 or somethin? I don't think it's more powerful but I don't know the MV. It's probably a superior weapon in terms of mechanics... it's supposed to be the best SMG in existence aside from its tiny cartridge.

Oh if it's local I probably don't know it.
