Poor KTR. At least you don't have to blame yourself. STUPID WEATHER!

Linda, I agree that exercise is key to staving off depression. A teeny bit of exercise can make world of difference. I felt like I'd retired when all my kids left home. My work was cut in half. It was not easy to transition into something new, but I have. Make a list of all those things you said you would do one day when you retired, and then JUST DO IT! As the Nike commercial goes. Hosting that Triaxian Silk boating Convention should be on that list. ;)

I will definitely be taking yoga tonight as I am looking at ANOTHER two days of snow.

This is getting crazy. I actually can't afford any more snow days. I have stuff I need to cover in my classes.

I went through a type of withdrawal when I quit my job to be at home with my son. It was probably a good thing that I left when I did because it had become such a part of my identity that it was getting unhealthy. I left under less than ideal circumstances (new College president who was Satan and he hated me) and I had a lot of unresolved anger about the whole thing.

I still miss working sometimes and as soon as my son is in school full time I plan to either get something part-time or to do more volunteer work. I really enjoy volunteering for the USO and I've volunteered at an animal shelter in the past. It's great to go and do something worthwhile that you enjoy but not have any major responsibilities connected to it like you did when you were on the payroll. It's freeing and gives you a chance to experiment with different areas of interest.

This forecast keeps changing. It was for another 1-2 feet if you listened to the forecasters this morning. then 6-10 inches. The national news made it sound like the end of the world. Now they're just saying 1-2 inches of snow and sleet for tomorrow.

Which is fine with me. One mighty snowfall a week is enough.

The drive home from school was from hell tonight. My class ended at 9:10, which usually means I get home about 10-10:15. Tonight I didn't get home until after 11:00, but that included a stop to my boss's house to feed her cats while she's on vacation. Still, my time there took maybe 10 minutes.

I'm tired, but because of that white-knuckle drive, I'm too wired to sleep at the moment.

The weather isn't too bad here but I AM SICK AGAIN!!!! :banghead: Third cold this winter. I take vitamins, I exercise, I spend waaaaay less time dealing with the public now that I'm home most of the time, where are all these viruses coming from?!? :bitch: I don't think I can blame my son because he hasn't been sick once. Unless he's bringing this stuff home with him and passing it on to me. My cousin says I should take 100mg of Vitamin C a day and it will up my immunity. :dunno:

If you're spending less time with the public, that's why you might be getting sicker more often. You're not getting exposure to as many germs, so the immune system can get a little "lazy." Then when you do come in contact with something, the body is caught off-guard.

It happens to my mom now. She's a nurse, but she hasn't been doing direct patient care for years. She says the first two years she worked in the hospital she was sick all the time, but after that, because of constant exposure to all kinds of crazy things, she hardly got sick at all for years and when she did, it wasn't as bad or for as long, because her immune system was "on alert" all the time. Then when she switched to doing telephone interviews, that changed because the only people she came into contact with any more were coworkers and random folks in public.

Might be worth a trip to the doctor, though, just to check that everything is okay.

I got sick all the time when I was new to high school teaching and all those germs (and all that work). Thankfully the college teaching hasn't been like that, knock wood. I also inevitably get sick when I'm really stressed out for a period of time AND I have time to be sick. I was one of those kids in college who always got sick after finals.

Beth, I'm so sorry about the power. Maybe that explains why the school district is closed today when all we're getting is rain?

If you need a place with power to hang out tomorrow, we're okay (knock wood) and I'll be home by noon. We did lose cable access for a few hours yesterday, but that was it.

That's fine. Being sick more than usual can obviously be a sign of an underlying condition. (But probably it's not.)

And yes, SB, waking up breathing is definitely a good sign.

I'm whining on the behalf of the people who live more than twenty minutes beyond the Hudson River in the other direction -- who are getting one to two feet of snow right now ... while all we get is rain. This is such bizarre weather!!!!
