Another Snow Day! It's been some winter.
I do wish my university had called off school last night until waiting until 6am this morning so I wouldn't have had to set my alarm.

Re: The Whine thread.
Took my dogs to the vet today for their annual check-ups. I had my vet take a look at a small lump on Jack's side. It had been there for a few months, didn't bother him or anything, so we weren't concerned. Turns out it is a mast cell tumor (cancer). Poor pup will have surgery and then we'll find out how serious it is. It could be localized if we're lucky.

Re: The Whine thread.
I had the same problem with one of my black labs -- small lump on the side. After the lump was removed, her prognosis from the lab was fair, which rather surprised the vet. He was sure they got it all. Anyway, to make a long story short, Bagheera lived for about 10 years after the operation. The cancer never came back. Hopefully things will work out as well for Jack.

Dinah, name of your Dog sounds familiar. Think it is from a Kipling story. Jungle book. am I right?
I am Retired. Having a good time IS my job

Re: The Whine thread.
You're right, Silverbullet. Bagheera was the panther in "The Jungle Book."

Poor baby! Good luck with everything. I hope he'll be okay. Got my fingers crossed and Elvis has his paws crossed.

Aikiweezie, I'll be sending good, healthy dog vibes your way! Good luck.

Re: The Whine thread.
Remember the minor car accident I had a few days ago, when I ever so slightly hit another car on our slippery parking lot? Well, it turns out I bumped another (parked) car as well while backing away after that. I didn't think much of it at the time because that bump didn't feel anything more than a very slight push you might give someone in jest. And my mind was naturally preoccupied with the first one I had hit.
Just this afternoon I happened to look out the window and saw a police car in the lot, and a policeman and another guy (the owner of that second car) was looking at the cars, taking measurements etc. So I ran out to see what it was all about and then told. I'd scraped his rear bumper. I hadn't noticed anything on my car since mine has minor scrapes all around since before.
Fine, OK! I'll be happy to settle this with the insurance as with the first car, but why did that second guy have to call the police?!
It's not like I was trying to run away or anything. He could have contacted me. Apparently he had rang the doorbell an hour before but I'd been in the bathroom then and not answered. I had just been able to see someone walking away and assumed it had been a Jehova's Witness.
But this other guy could've left me a note, or phoned me (I'm in the book). But no, he got the police there...
We are now going to settle this as it should be, with out insurance companies. But jeez... what if I'd been out of town, or even not accidentally having looked out the window? Would the police have called me then?
This is waaay much overkill and I'm rather pissed off. I'd like to tell this guy off, but since he's sort of like a "deputy landlord/supervisor" I don't want to get on his wrong side. Gah! But what an idiot!

My poor Jack is blind due to juvenille cataracts, too. Poor baby. I am hopeful thanks to what Dinah and som others have told me. He's had the bump for several months and from what I've read if it's the worst kind it grows very quickly. the longer it's been around the more likely it's localized.
Sorry about all you auto troubles KTR.

Re: The Whine thread.
KTR, sometimes people can be such ^%%holes even when you are trying to do the right thing! I sympathize with you! My daugther went through something like you did recently - both parties were equally at fault with the car accident but the other woman, who shouted the loudest, came out better with the police! Because my daughter had her toddle in the car, she did not want to argue with the woman and have the situation escalate to a shoving match. Geez, life is just not fair sometimes.
Aikiweezie, I am so sorry about your dog. Pets are family. We lost a pet about a year ago and we still are sad. I hope your situation gets resolved in the most caring way and with the least amount of pain.
And now, my laptop had to die. I did go buy another computer, the most inexpensive desktop machine I could find (Walmart special, LOL). But it is not set up yet, so I am on my husband's desktop machine because he is at work and I am on my first day of forced retirement! Although I backed up files onto a flash drive from my laptop, I forgot to back up my address book! Sigh, so now I am off to my old workplace, which I never expected to return to, to consult one of the hardware people to see if we can retrieve the address book. I thought I was finished with that place! Already handed in my key. Well I do have some friends there after 26 years of working there, so I hope the higher up management does not mind me visiting. They probably won't even notice I am visiting, LOL.

Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Something very similar happened to me when I was on a travel writing gig in Deadwood, SD. I was in a rental car and tapped this lady's bumper. Apparently I made a dent, but I honestly didn't see the dent and was not even sure that I had it the car or a curb. I got out and checked. But it was in the early morning sun - and her car was silver. Anyway I went to my meeting and then returned. Soon the police knocked on my hotel room door threatening to arrest me for leaving the scene of the accident.
The funny thing is that the lady whose parked car I hit actually figured out that I hadn't seen the dent (it was hard to see) and told the police not to worry about it and she'd talk to me when I got back. She'd been staying at the hotel, too and later apologized to me (which there was no need, I apologized to her, too). It was a busy body old lady sitting on her porch that called the cops. Who told the lady whose car was damaged that it wasn't her call.
Luckily, I only got a ticket - but the cop told me if he had his way I'd be spending the night in jail. Not much for the cops to do in Deadwood, SD. Unlike the TV show.

Re: The Whine thread.
^ Some people are just a**h***s! And I mean both that cop and the busy body old lady who probably thought the whole incident just livened up their otherwise dull day.
Anyway, apparently it was the other guys insurance company who had told him to call the cops since the "perp" (me) hadn't made myself known. But if he did suspect me (and like I said before, I had no idea I'd hit him that much) why follow that advice and get the cops there just an hour after he rang my doorbell?
But we've settled it ourselves now. I don't want to risk aggravating things by inquiring about his chain of events.
