I am glad to see you share my opinion of the KISS principle in surveilance equipment.

Raijin huh? So she has Gardner by the short and curlies. Tsk, tsk. Dirty old man. Smile

Shock Whoa. This gets crazier and crazier.

I like the Scott/Amanda interaction. Silly Amanda, thouh. History is very important! Loved the Santayana quote.

Well, I was channeling those people who disagree with us ... one of my sisters was like that in high school...

Loved the Santayana quote.

Heh. That's the second time I've used it. It popped up in the first Foundations episode I wrote (1x01 "Rubicon") too...

The more I think of this, the more twisted it becomes. If Raijin is Medea, then would that cast Gardner in the role of Pelias? Obviously he isn't Jason. Gardner? An Argonaut? Huh-uh. Maybe Raijin offered Gardner some fountain of youth bribe? That would mesh with the legend.

I picked the name "Medea" because she was a mythological sorceress, and I really like the name. No parallels with the actual myth or play are really intended beyond that so trying to figure out who Jason is, or Pelias, or Absyrtus is isn't necessary.

Um ... possibly?

Remember, I'm an uncomplicated guy. Yeah, I like my occasional word games where I phrase something so people will assume that I meant one thing when it actually means something else (ala the torpedo "impacting" at the beginning of Grendel), but I generally don't get too in depth when it comes to fic titles. I could have called this "Endeavour: Circe" or "Endeavor: Morgana" also, but I just really like the name "Medea."

It's actually ironic that the link to the E2-prise (children) and the name of the fic (Medea) might cause some worry, since that NEVER OCCURRED TO ME. *shakes head in self-disgust*

And remember, I plan for the long term. It's entirely possible (and in fact likely) that some of the stuff in this fic is setting up future plots and story threads.

As an aside, an email I got regarding the series has me seriously contemplating an MU Endeavour fic at some point...

I'm perplexed. The teaser indicates that the Romulan spy is a woman, so what the heck is Gardner doing? I wonder if the two are even connected at all. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

If you do, please give MU Trip a spine? Pretty please with the icing of your choice on top? The way he let everyone, and I mean everyone aboard kick him in the gonads without more than a mild whimper really disgusted me. Especially the way MU T'Pol used him like a two credit whore and then threw him to the jackals made me want to puke.

Don't you remember Raijin? The slave that Archer bought in the Expanse who turned out to be a spy for the Xindi? The telepath who could scan people and reported back to the reptilians with the data for their bioweapon? She is the Romulan spy and Gardner is her traitor contact.

Oh. I never saw that episode, so I only know what I've read. All the same, I didn't get that the spy wasn't necessarily the highly placed person. But - why would Gardner do that?

Heh. In my attempt to get my "cover donkey" Chrisis1033 (his title, not mine) to get cracking, I bashed out a teaser for a MU Endeavour fic. Note: this doesn't mean I'm working on one since I have to have a plot & story for a fic to be written. Does he have sufficient spine for you here?
TEASER

The clank of boots upon metal warned her of her guest's approach.

Standing before the observation window that currently overlooked Earth, Empress Hoshi Sato the First turned regally, her hands clasped tightly behind her back. She was unworried should her guest attempt to assault her; a personal force screen belt scavenged from the Defiant encircled her waist, and her First Prince, Travis Mayweather, was less than a meter away. He was walking death with any weapon that she knew of, and had at least seven on his person at all times.

Face set in a fierce scowl, Commander Charles Tucker came to a stop three or four meters away from her and crossed his arms. To her surprise - and secret delight - he did not genuflect like so many others did in her presence. There was no fear in his eyes. Mayweather's expression darkened at Tucker's calculated insult, but Sato shook her head slightly.

"You are late," she informed her guest, and Tucker snorted.

"So?" he said flippantly. "I was busy."

"When I summon you," Sato stated coldly, "You will present yourself to me at once."

"Or what?" Tucker asked. He sneered, and the scarring on his face only magnified the expression. "You'll throw me in an agony booth?" Tucker nearly spat. "Death doesn't frighten me, Hoshi," he snarled, emphasizing her given name with contempt.

Sato nearly sighed. Since even before her ascension, Tucker had been difficult to control. More than anyone else in the galaxy, she needed him alive to get Defiant fully operational and he knew it. Most of the primary systems aboard the starship were based on principles his alternate had developed, and Tucker had the only true insight into how that man's mind worked. On more occasions than she wanted to count, he had thrown this fact into her face, and displayed open hostility toward her. Threats on his life only seemed to make him laugh. The continuing well being of a certain prisoner in Sato's control was the only thing that seemed to keep him in place, but even that was beginning to wear thin. Tucker was getting dangerous.

"What do you want, Tucker?" Sato asked abruptly. From his place, Mayweather gave her a brief, incredulous look that she was bargaining with the recalcitrant engineer, but said nothing. He was good at keeping his mouth shut. "I need Defiant fully operational by October," she continued, "and the only way that is going to happen is if you are in charge of the repair crews. So what do you want?" She considered smiling seductively, but he had never seemed interested in her charms, and the thought of taking him to bed was repulsive. His face had once been pleasing, but now? Now, she'd rather sleep with an Andorian than him.

"Two things," Tucker replied without hesitation. "One, I want my own ship." He gave the observation window a glance, once more sneering at the distant appearance of Defiant. "And not that thing. I want Endeavour." Sato hesitated at that; she had promised Reed the Endeavour. The MACO colonel could be assuaged with other things, though; the idea of him in charge of Internal Security very nearly brought a smile to her face.

"And the second?" she asked, already knowing what it would be. She wasn't wrong.

"I want T'Pol."

your evil has reached a new high, Rigil. You tempt us with a brilliant MU intro for a story that doesn't exist -- and you haven't even finished the RU story it's based on. AND you have FDN stories to write.

I'm gonna be pissed if you overextend yourself and burn out. So please don't.

damn you and your compelling plots!
