Congratulations, Aquarius!
I think an A- in chemistry is phenomenal. I envious that you got to take yoga. It sure beats the "Fundamentals of Movement" and square dancing that we got stuck with in college.

I'm anticipating As in the rest of my classes, so needless to say, since I took two more classes this semester than last, I'm extremely satisfied, even though I didn't get a 4.0.

Good job on the chem!
Doesn't it just figure some bullshit course like YOGA is the one that brings your grade average down?
That happened to me with acting, which I just took for fun in my senior year. (Of course, a B was a generous grade, given my acting ability.) And I can't regret it since I had to teach drama in high school and it came in awfully useful to have had some actual instruction.

Congratulations Aquarious.
Re: The Happy News thread
Well, absences brought my yoga grade down. It's my own fault. I missed once due to to car trouble, once after I hurt my knee, and once because I just didn't feel like going to class that day. So I did it to myself; the car trouble and the knee couldn't be helped, but if I didn't miss that third time, I still would've gotten an A-. I knew better, I did it any way.
Thanks for the props, everyone! One more grade came in. Creative writing. A. Surprise. LOL

Well, I'm done with my second to last round of grading! That means I have a respite until Friday when the final papers and projects start coming in. A week to do those, and I'll have a break! From grading, at least.

Good luck, honeybee! It's light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel time for you!
Last of the grades are in, and I think I can safely say my GPA is "salvaged." When I returned to school last fall, my GPA was around a 2.5 or less. As of right now, I'm finally officially a junior, and my GPA has risen to 3.037. Now there are scholarships who will consider giving me money. Just wish there was a "what a comeback!" award. Getting your sh#t together is a lot harder than doing it right the whole time.

Re: The Happy News thread
So, I had this student who graduated last year. Lovely young woman. Never been out of the United States - from a broken, lower middle class home. A little chubby but very cute girl. Very shy.
She told me once that she'd like to travel but didn't think she'd ever get the chance. So, I put her name in consideration for a teaching gig at a university in China. She applied and got it - but last summer emailed me and said it was a no go for Visa issues. I was disappointed for her - and I didn't hear from her again.
WELL, I just got Facebooked by her. From China! The visa issues were cleared up and at the last minute she got on a plane and went across the world. She posted pictures of herself, about twenty pounds lighter, happier and generally looking fantastic. Her email was professional, articulate and confident.
In other words, she's doing awesome. So, as stressed as I am this time of year, it's nice to have some sense that you do do good in the world sometimes!

Re: The Happy News thread
From the news, this also seems like a good time to be taking a break from Thailand.
