I love Netflix! The only wonderful lasting thing the ex did for us was convince daddy to get an x-box and an x-box live subscription so the Netflix plays anything on it instantly.

Yes, Virginia, an asteroid of sufficient size could destroy life on this planet: http://news.discovery.com/space/earth-dodges-an-interplanetary-bullet.html It just doesn't happen all that often. The fact of the matter is, scientists have computed the trajectories of several near-Earth objects, and a lot of them are pretty big and could possibly hit us. Whether or not it happens in our lifetimes is another thing.

My name isn't Virginia???? I didn't say it couldn't happen I said I didn't believe it was going to happen. Jeeze call me optimistic. I thought that was a good thing.

This whole asteroid/volcano conversation reminds me of one of the stupidest things I have heard a major politician (not some fringe politician) say. Bobby Jindal, the governor of Louisiana, was ripping frivolous spending in the stimulus bill and cited "Volcano monitoring? What is that?"

He was ridiculed by both his own party and the Democrats for that one. But I'm sure Spirit Lake eccentric Harry R. Truman thought volcano monitoring was silly. Mt. St. Helens fell on him. He died.

With a flight to London on Tuesday - I have a very strong vested interest in icelandic Volcano activity, as does the entire European economy.

Oh, and there's this:

Yeah, I doubt Jindal would have dismissed Hurricane monitoring as frivolous.

I sure hope you make it to London, Honeybee. They said they might have to shut down that airspace...

For that matter, I hope KTR doesn't get marooned in the Chicago airport...

O'hara would be the absolute worst place to be stuck! I hate that airport with a passion.

I could live in the new Terminal E of Houston InterContinental Tom Hanks style.

I'm crossing my fingers. But you know, I don't want all four engines of my plane to get knocked out - so if I can't fly.

I was snowed in at Midland Airport in Chicago once and this very corporate looking guy was yelling at the ticket counter woman about his flight being canceled. Yelling. The FAA had shuttered the airport and canceled all flights for a major blizzard. I would have understood if he was pissed at his accommodations or the lack of food or whatever - but he was pissed that they wouldn't let his flight take off and going on about how many times he had taken off in the snow.

I was like, Dude, they don't want it to crash. Chill.

O'Hare's not THAT bad!!!! Midway isn't great for sure. It's so small! And it's literally in the middle of a neighborhood, so in order to enforece the sound reduction laws (yup you read that right) planes have to take off and land at steeper than usual angles.

The good thing about being marooned at O'Hare is that there are dozens of really nice hotels very close by if you need one.

Now I want to see O'Hare so I can make my own determination.

I can't imagine many jobs more stressful than ticket agent at an airport gate. Between people who are justifiably irate, people who are just jerks, and people who are scared to death or dealing with emotional trauma on their way to sick people or dead relatives, plus the inevitable people who are trying to fit a bus worth of carry-on luggage on, and then the responsibility to personally assess the risk that any given passenger might engage in terrorism/giving birth/being a drunken lout/etc. ... bleah!!!

If you come to the Star Trek Convention in October you can! It will be in one of the big convention center/hotels right by the airport. But, alas, as of now, no Connor Trineer on the guestlist. :(

BTW - I work at the USO at O'Hare every once in a while. Terminal 2 mezannine.

Will Robbie McNiell be there? Honestly I wouldn't go for Trip or anyone else except Robbie McNiell and Roxann Dawson.
