German speakers/scholars, I'm curious about a new German-language story up at ff.net. Does "Achtung, Kitsch" in a story description mean what it sounds like (Warning, kitsch!)? Kitsch implies tacky crap here. It makes me chuckle.

First time in a long while I've noticed foreign-language Enterprise stories. There are also a couple in Russian or some other cyrillic alphabet.

As far as my German goes, Achtung Kitsch means "Warning fake art". (Just reminds me of U2's Achtung baby )Would be fun to read a German Enterprise fic.

Kitsch in German means "cheap stuff without value", like pink plastic dolls with bad hair that cost 10 cents to produce. It generally refers to useless stuff.

BTW. If there's real demand, I'd me more than happy to provide a German fanfic. These days - working for an international conglomerate - I speak more English than my mother tongue.

EDIT:

I just read the piece on ff.net. It's biblically bad. Whatever the guy/gal was smoking that day - if it is legal, I want a ton of that. That's not Kitsch, it's a word that starts with a C and ends with a P, and it's not CROP.

Most German ST fans d/l'ed torrents from the net and watched the original. The German dubbing of ST was insanely bad. For instance, much of Trip's appeal came from his southern accent. In the german version he spoke a scientifically clean "High-German", which noone outside the city of Hannover speaks. I'd rather have my testies laminated than ever watch "Carbon Creek" in German again, and I AM bloody German. I never watched a german dubbed episode again. I know ST only in english. It just didn't work

Well, all the more impressive. I'm frankly kind of wondering if Enterprise is a lot cooler in UK and Germany than it is in the US. Per capita, the ff reading rates are much higher in those two countries than they are here.
