Re: Randomness
I was just checking CNN online in case they had election results yet, which they don't, and one of my friends from Philadelphia is right there on the main page on their Friends list.
The world is definitely getting smaller. Or maybe CNN doesn't have many friends, I don't know.

Re: Randomness
Alelou - I think CNN is big brothering you - thanks to Facebook's famous privacy laws - CNN can grab your friends from your browser and put them on its homepage. The same thing happened to me the other day. My friend Rachel shows up in the friends box whenever I look at CNN's homepage.
On a different note, I just sent a mailer full of old nylons to a charity that is collecting them (and hair and fur) to make oil soaking booms. You can sign up to donate at:

Re: Randomness
Yes, I realized that last night when I told Jaime to log on so he could see her and there was nothing on his screen -- because he shut down his Facebook account last week.
I guess all those privacy settings don't really count for much. Because I do have it set for friends only. Or I thought I did. Gmail has a way of getting in there and screwing with stuff, though.
Meanwhile, I was kind of disgusted last night because I started at abcnews to get election results and it was pretty much indistinguishable from any other entertainment site. At first I thought I must have put in the wrong url. I can't STAND Diane Sawyer and her sappy morning 'news' ethic. They're turning their news division into a frickin' women's magazine. Since when should a network evening news anchor ever get caught telling a figure in the news, "Thanks so much for everything you're doing." Shame on her!!!!!

And they wonder why so many have given up on network news and have turned to the internet or cable.

Re: Randomness
Freaking out a little...though it's not really a whine or upsetting news or happy news. It just...is.
So Elvis and I are about to become Grandma's roommates for a few months. I'll be an hour away from school (still, just in a different direction) and an hour away from work.
But it's just until the end of December. Then my bff since we were 10 years old and her sister and I are all going to get a place together, something likely to be centrally located between my job and school, so it won't be such a hike on any given day. The driving part will only suck until December...but I just have to suck it up and do it. It's a bummer that I have to wait that long, but their lease where they're at isn't up until January.
The good news: I won't have to miss having a garden, Grandma will be more than content to let me play in her dirt. I won't have to miss having a clothesline, Grandma's got one. Fresh country air. The safety and security of living with family. Grandma's cooking. And I'll be able to cook for my family.
The bad news: The commute. Dial-up internet. Broadcast TV. No DVR.
Just...change, by its very nature, is rarely comfortable, you know?
All in all, not really a raw deal, compared to the alternatives. And she's okay with the cat coming.

Re: Randomness
Good luck on your extended visit to Grandma's! And thank Goodness you can take kitty. As far as computer stuff goes, are there any places you can take advantage of WiFi? Do you have "Enterprise" on DVD?

Re: Randomness
OOOooo . . . the drive and the dial-up Internet . . .
I feel for you. Otherwise it sounds like a nice deal. And you are looking forward to a more permanent situation with your bff. That's nice.

I'm donating my body to science fiction.
Re: Randomness
People never like change, but you're looking at some improvement of living in a couple of months. Hope you have a good stay with your grandmother. The surrounding sounds nice, but dial up internet and to travel every day - that's tough. Nice that you can bring Elvis with you. Does your grandmother likes cats?
Love is a verb.

I am not a vegetarian. Quite the contrary, in fact, but I thought I'd post this:
Vote: Who are the sexiest vegetarian celebrities of 2010?
I voted for Natalie Portman
. And I find it amusing that Kevin Bacon is a vegetarian...

I belong to "People for the Eating of Tasty Animals," myself.

I love the idea of being a vegetarian and I frequently go DAYS without eating meat, but every now and then I really, really need a steak. Or prime rib.............

Re: Randomness
Dial-up Internet is just so sad. You won't even be able to load your own signature! Can you get Grandma hooked up to cable internet for a few months? Maybe you'll convert her... Or at least get DSL through the phone company. It's not that much slower.

Re: Randomness
The problem is it's a rural area so south of the expressway you can't *get* dsl or cable. And I was pricing it thru a satellite dish and that's a big hell no for such a short stay. I'll just go into town & use it at the library a lot.

Re: Randomness
Really? If she has a land phone line, I would have thought she could get DSL. Believe me, that was my only option here for years. We still don't have FIOS around here. We never did get voice mail, either. I'm so glad we finally got cable.
Library works and is a lot cheaper, though.
Glad you still get to enjoy a garden, at least. And I bet you grandma will be happy to have company.

Re: Randomness
Nope, phone doesn't automatically equal dsl. There has to be a dsl station nearby, and there probably aren't enough homes in the area to make it worth it for these companies to put in the infrastructure. I'm not kidding. It's farm country.

Okay, if you're like me, you probably just assumed the woman who played Blanche Deveraux lived in an awesome apartment filled with naughty art and secret passages - now we know for sure:
