Maybe it was in a deleted scene or something I read, but I could still swear they met when because he taught her group at Starfleet training. Oh this is going to bug me... All I know is that I didn't get it from a fanfic. I just hope you don't have a romance planned. She's 22 in Broken Bow, he's 45. Normally, I don't mind age differences, but in this case, its just creepy to the power of 1000!

I got the impression in the first couple of episodes that Hoshi might have had a little crush on Archer, but I didn't see any signs of it after that. I never had the impression that Archer returned the attraction. He seemed more mentor/father/way-older-big-brother protective to me.

Pretty much how I saw it too. But I like to tease Kotik.

No romance planned here. I think Hoshi might be a tad hero-worshipping in connection with Archer. She way she acts in Broken Bow, she was afraid of just about anything on the ship. I get the impression she had expected a linguist posting at Starfleet Academy in mind, when she joined SF, not a space job.

Didn't she help develop the UT? I think she expected to be a techie. But anyway I just like to tease you. :-P

So a 23 year difference is creepy there, but a 30 year difference (Trip/T'Pol) isn't? Not trying to argue for Archer/Sato (I didn't see it ever), but the inconsistency seems odd.

It's not the years. It's the people involved. Archer/Hoshi (creepy), TnT (not creepy).

That ... still doesn't make any sense to me. Sorry. Is it simply because you can't stand the Archer character? I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to comprehend. To me, Archer/Sato is just as viable as ... say ... Reed/Sato or Mayweather/Sato or even Phlox/Sato because the show didn't explicitly contradict it with a OTP (as is the case with Trip/Anyone or T'Pol/Anyone since TnT is the Show Ship.)

My issues with the A/S pairing is more of a position/authority issue than anything else...

No it has nothing to do with my not liking Archer. I just don't think Archer and Hoshi would be good together with the age difference. That's not to say either of them wouldn't be fine wiith someone else with the same age difference. Just not them together.

Ah. Okay. That makes sense. I guess it depends on which team of writers were doing Archer that week and which whacked out incarnation he was in. :D

The age difference is pretty much irrelevant. Archer/Hoshi doesn't work, because the chemistry isn't there. Just compare their interaction with - let's say - Malcolm and Hoshi in the target practice scene in "Marauders" and you'll know why there are a lot more R/S than A/S fic's.

TnT is a completely different matter. There's a clear direction for those two. Fast Forward to "Home"

T'Mom & Trip wrote:T'LES: I know that you are romantically involved with my daughter. There's no logic in denying it. How long have you been attracted to her?
TUCKER: I knew we had some kind of chemistry the first time we got into an argument. I never had fun arguing with anyone before. I got the impression T'Pol wasn't going to say anything to you.

The first real argument was the infamous decon scene. It may have been added for shameless titilation, but it offers two important things:

  • It's their first real argument and by Trip's later admission it is the point at which he realized that there is some kind of chemistry between them
  • Same goes IMHO for T'Pol. There is no logical reason for her to let Trip fondle her ears. Not only does she end the contact quite belatedly, she also 'returns the gesture', when she caresses Trip's ears.

I think from that point on the direction is clear and it isn't surprising that it is Trip, who convinces her that she should continue the mission, while Archer is in sickbay

Many say that "Breaking the ice" is where their long way towards each other begins, but I think this episode was more meant to hammer the point home for those who hadn't yet gotten the clue that their interaction was different.

Joking is permitted. I actually find the discussion quite good, that's what I opened this thread for. With such a big project it is important that it goes along well with the general view on the show. Would be somewhat useless to write hundreds of pages, which then appeal only to a small minority.

Personally, if my goal in writing was to please anyone but myself I'd end up killing myself. My goal is to learn. But you have broad appeal anyway Kotik. :D
