Ya know, I'm not sure... I think it just caught me so much by surprise because it's a great sci fi show, in totally modern day, but really the meat of the show seems to be the characters, not the science. AND the science is well done, they seem to do their homework about things. I even watched them doing their math once when they were supposedly doing Quantum and they were!
Jack's definitely my favorite character, of course Allison's amazingly hot and charming as well. Zoe is cool because (not in looks) but in personality she reminds me of my first GF/kiss to a T, the way she's a troublemaker, does her own thing, but inevitably really is quite smart. I like Henry, he has a lot of the mannerisms of intellectuals, even the bad ones like being tired of being everybody's go-to guy (last epi). And I like how the characters are multidimensional, so Stark isn't 100% bad guy, as we saw in the artificial-life episode. I actually had Stark really grow on me.... Stark is the mathematician that every mathematician wants to be: Nobel-winning, and married to (or was) a gorgeous, driven, strong woman... not to mention lusted after by a few other women on the show. I like how the Chef guy reminds me of a walking, talking replicator, which is funny, like they found a way to make a human being as much like a replicator as possible by making him a Chef, but a genius, so he can make absolutely anything. And in a way the town is like a starship, where you don't pay for anything, because it's all one self-sufficient community.
I also like how the town has been around since post-WW2 days, so they run into surprises all the time in the form of abandoned research projects and such, causing mischief. Like the "death-ray"

Oh and Putnam, HAHAHA. "Space is time, time is relative, and all of it's money. Change the paradigm."
