Re: *sigh*...possible TrisCon in D.C.?
I just think it's kind of ironic that the most obvious enthusiasm for this event, here on the forum, anyway, is coming from two Canadians and a Thai...
Have a great time. (I'm sure you will.)

Re: *sigh*...possible TrisCon in D.C.?
I'm going to have to say probably not.
I have to be home with P. that weekend to show her some American culture: Halloween. Believe me, it is very hard to find any American culture she hasn't already experienced before (she lived in downtown Bangkok, a cosmopolitan city of 10 million), but so far we have 1) Star Trek, 2) playing pool, and 2) ice skating. She'll have to be here for Halloween. Sorry

Re: *sigh*...possible TrisCon in D.C.?

No iceskating in Bangkok? Hmmm. Little niche there for the bilingual international entrepreneur.

Well Bangkok has everything, even one ice skating rink. It's just that P. hadn't had a chance to go there yet. OH! P. likes ice skating, so we made plans to go again this weekend.

I'm 6 hours away from D.C. and I've got relatives there.
SIGH. It'd be nice to meet someone from the board.

CUH-MON THEN!
You gotta! You gotta come!
I'm crazy, but in a relatively harmless way - just ask Dis and Elessar.

Random: Looky this HDR I made the other day of my barn/tenants' loft under the full moon:

I used Photomatix, which is an awesome program.

Re: *sigh*...possible TrisCon in D.C.?
Check out these crazy pix:
http://www.google.ca/search?sourceid=na ... dr+picture
It's a high dynamic range picture. This is an old technique to photograph things (like the sea & sky for example) that have wildly different lighting requirements.
If it's a pic of sea and sky for example:
so you set your fstop or your exposure time so that the clouds and the sky look quite nice. But, then, alas! The ocean is too dark. So then you take another pictue with the exposure time (or f stop) set for the ocean's detail. Alas...now the sky is washed out!
But IF you put the two negatives together (or use photomatix to merge your digital pix) then you get the detail of both pictures merged into one image! Much more like a "human eye experience" than a "photo experience" when you view the final image.
See this picture (it's not mine). I LOVE it.

Re: *sigh*...possible TrisCon in D.C.?
Wow. Good to know. I like that picture you have at the end, too -- it's one of those shots that you think oh wow that will be so great -- and then it somehow gets washed out and loses that whole 'magic hour' look -- but oh look, you got it after all!
The first few photos at that site were really cool (especially that water shot, wow). However, I thought the weird intensity of a lot of those photos gives them a kind of creepy/kitschy quality.

Re: *sigh*...possible TrisCon in D.C.?
Well isn't this just irony at its greatest?
As EP and I just discovered, we're actually both going to be in D.C. that weekend. I had no idea there even was any rally
, I'm a graduate student I don't have time for news!
I DO, however, have time to jet over to see my very good friend Ellie
and so it turns out that Ellie, me, Priso and EP will all be in D.C. that weekend! My friend Alex and her BF are coming down from NYC also but idk how many people I'll have time to see. Between me you and the birdie, I'd rather seen Priso and EP so, we'll have to hook something up. We're having dinner with Ellie's friends Friday and we have reservations somewhere Saturday but I was thinking, Priso and EP, we should go get drinks before that. That doesn't interrupt your event does it?
I actually fly in the 28th and leave late the evening of the 31st too! lol

OK, I'm coming and bringing P. (foreign exchange student) and meeting my sons J. and P., who will be coming from Phily. I'm busy writing moderate political signs for the rally, which I know I can't post here. Although, I guess I can mention my sister's suggestion:
"I'm not mad as hell, and I'm going to take it some more!"
Well, this should be fun.
