This weather is ridiculous! It's snowing like hell in a region that hasn't seen the white stuff since the Romans left  Some poor taxi driver just got his car stuck infront of our house while trying to haul an old lady to her doctor's appointment. Landlady's not gonna be happy. I'm afraid, I just dug a hole in her frontyard to get sand to throw under his wheels. :?

Well, you know it's bad if you can't dig the hole anymore because the ground is frozen. (That's us, though we don't have snow at the moment, knock wood.)

Sheets of cardboard sometimes work for that.

I hate when the stupid rain is coming down in buckets and it mixes with the animal poop to form "Mud flat #1" (aka the chicken coop) and Mudflats #2 & #3 (aka the goat yards)

I hate when I tell my so-called adult offspring over and over and OVER again to do something one way and they do it "their way" instead and get themselves into trouble. And then of course they come crying to mommy all upset and expect me to be all understanding and maternal when all I want to do is to smack them upside the head and shout, "I TOLD you, you dummy!" :banghead:

And then I hate it when I feel guilty for feeling like that ^^ about my poor, sweet baby girl or boy. Sigh.

My condolences. I think I like our way better. Neither the students nor the teachers have to spend their holidays with the sword of pending grades hanging over their heads. Even though it does kinda spoil the holiday mood for the students (and their parents) if they fail.

Oh dear, grading time. And for every sort of class...including my students at the YMCA. Yup, we give report cards for swimming lessons! We are just finishing up a set of eight lessons. I had a Monday night class with a set of quadruplets in it. They are six year olds - a girl and three boys. I don't know if the boys are identical, but they all look alike and I tell them apart by the color of their swim suits - and their swimming abilities. The girl is the strongest swimmer, very coordinated and with the most endurance. One of the boys does almost as well as her, but the other two struggle to swim a whole length of the pool and are uncoordinated in their arm and leg movements. So I passed the girl and one boy from Guppy level to Minnow level. The other two boys, I could not pass and they have to repeat Guppy. After class, the two boys who didn't pass were standing around their mother and crying. I felt bad, but the mother was not upset when I explained it was a safety issue - the two boys just could not keep up and swim without floatation devices the whole length of the pool and Minnows level was for those who no longer used floatation devices. Since the four 'twins' did activities as a group, I was now essentially splitting them up - treating them as individuals. But I am glad it was two and two, not one passing and three not. I know I was doing the right thing skill wise, but what would be the effect on the four of them psychologically? And I just hate to make kids cry!
Working on a major fan fic project. Two-thirds done. Hope to put it up in the not TOO distant future.

Don't worry Linda it may be hard the first couple of lessons but kids are extraordinarily tough. Since it is a 2 and 2 thing, "both sets" will have the comfort of a sibling. Bet ya 100$ it'll be fine.

Well we all know how hard that musta been for you. You're a sweet granny, not some swimming-pool-report-card-nazi or anything. And it is a safety issue for sure. You'd end up saving their feelings and endangering their lives if you just passed them out of niceness. I'm glad the momma understood.

Must have been neat/weird teaching a 4some like that.

Usually, we too... (our academic year finishes about 10-15 December). The problem is that, with my trip to India, I left some evaluation work to my graduate students. They already submitted it (so they are free, although worried about their grades), but I must still read their papers, correct and give the final grades (at least the partial examinations are already graded). Probably will be doing it from 26th on...
