Very neat ideas you have there, Rigil! Thumbs Up I agree with most of them. Given your reputation, I'm surprised that you ended the war that soon though - midway into season 7. Laughing

I like the low-key marriage ceremony performed by Archer.

The Robert April thing was neat too!

But why wouldn't Tucker or T'Pol get promotions if they'll fit the C.O. slots of an NX-ship?

Yeah, I'd make a throw away line in an early episode that the Klingons now have descended into internal strife/civil war since the augment/flathead virus started to spread. That'd keep them out of commission for a couple of decades!

I think this would need to be addressed too, although I think it'd make a good Travis storyline. First of all, he also lost his family in your 'verse, and secondly it just seems to work for me.

Fabulous idea. It's utterly believably considering what we know of the Klingons. ("I blame you that I look like a human p'tahk! My honorable appearance is gone! I must be avenged! Today is a good day to die!")

Uh, LOL, Evcake, that was my story about the little girl Nel being watched over by Soval while she was being raised by a Human couple. I just loved so much Shouldknowbetter's pairing of Amanda Cole and Soval that I wrote several stories about them too. And Myst123 did also. And I think there was someone else who used that pair, but it slips my mind at the moment. Julie hated that pairing and wrote some very good Soval stories pairing him with an original character of her own. There is also a very racy NC17 story about Soval in pon farr with another original character by Galadriel.

You are right, about the bonding question. I don't see Trip and T'Pol giving up a child of their own unless the situation was dire. They would be fiercely protective parents. But if they had too...with T'Pol's mother gone...Trip's mon would be the best choice, I think.

If I had been in charge from day one, the war would have started in season 2, Starfleet would have actually been a "fleet" instead of (apparently) one ship, T'Pol would have been an "observer" and held no rank aboard ENT (she could still be SCI, though), and Archer would have been written completely different from the get-go.

But why wouldn't Tucker or T'Pol get promotions if they'll fit the C.O. slots of an NX-ship?

Starfleet has more things to worry about and CDRs can (and do) command ships. Now that I think about it, I'd actually be tempted to give Tucker the NX-01 when they bump Archer (since Trip was one of the guys who helped build the thing - who knows it better than him?) and give T'Pol the other NX ship.

I disagree, since we'd establish (and I mentioned it but didn't go into any detail) that he actually has a support base (Reed, Sato, Phlox). IMO, Archer would be an ideal candidate for this since we've seen in season 3 that he has a tendency to close himself off from everyone else when the excrement starts hitting the oscillating fans. This would be no different, and would humanize the character, I think, which could have the benefit of making him a more likable character.

I was watching 300 the other day and had a thought: how fricking cool would the Klingons have been if they based them on the Spartan warrior code instead of the retards that they usually are? "KLINGONS! Prepare for glory!"

Oops!! My bad. Very Happy But you see your story made an impression, right? Very Happy Left me with some lasting images: Soval meditaing in the garden, Nel hiding in the folds of his robe, Amanda talking to the group of Vulcans, Soval at the edge of the Trench. Very Happy It's a good story, Linda. Very Happy

I am honored, Evcake! At least your comment balances out the one I got that said: "I like the premise of the story, but there were times reading it that some of the dialog sounded odd and I have to say I never got a good sense of the characters." Well, that was very honest, but I wish she/he had given me examples of what was odd, so I could improve my writing. I poured over it trying to find the odd stuff and had to end up just thinking that it was me that is odd, LOL.

The someone else was firewolfe I think...she writes alot on the yahoo Trek groups like the Sarek and Amanda and Romulan/Vulcan forums. Smile

But I don't think I've read the other ones....are they in the Soval forum over at HoT?

Yes, that's where they are. If you haven't read them you're in for a treat. It's interesting to see Soval morphing out of canon through ShouldKnowBetter's into Linda's stories. *smiley indicating respect and admiration*

FireWolfe's Soval is different incarnation. Smile

And Galadriel's, well.... Very Happy

While you're there, check out the story called Kitchen Help. Have some Kleenex with you. Laughing

So, aside from the Earth/Romulan War and the actual forming of the Federation, what kind of stories would you have liked to see, presumably one to take place before the war breaks out?

Here is a not so small list of mine: Smile

  • The first starbase
Remember that they were going to that planet of dragons, Berengaria VII, to scout for a possible location for a starbase when they got interrupted in Bound? So go back there and finish the job.
  • The Xindi
What happened to the Xindi after the Expanse went away? Civil war? Romulans?
  • The Suliban
OK, not really a favourite storyline to address, but for the sake of resolving hanging plot threads, what happened to them and the Cabal? If the Temporal Cold War is no more then how did they fare?
  • The Orions, pirates and Boomers
This could be a major story-arc about interstellar piracy and how Starfleet and the Coalition of Planets try to help defeat it. It would be nice to see the Orion homeworld as well. The Boomers would, as we've seen before, be vulnerable to pirates.
  • Shran and the Andorians
How is life on Andoria and what happened to Shran? Did he get a new command. And how is the political situation of Andoria anyway?
  • The Tellarites
I quite curious about them. What kind of a species are they, besides that they like to argue and insult? I got the feeling that they are builders, engineers and traders. Maybe their planet is very industrial.
  • Earth colonies and Boomers
I'd like to see how things are on places like Alpha Centauri, Vega Colony and places like that. Humans should've gotten some colonies after 100 years of interstellar, albeit slow, space travel. It could be different colonies ranging from agriculture to mining. Then add the Boomers who transports their products. Some far away colonies and transports could become victims of Romulan incursions.
  • The Rigelians
Now here is an interesting system. It has a lot of inhabited planets, and there seems to be a lot of different Rigelian species as well. How does that work exactly and what is their relationship with the rest of the Coalition? It might become strained since they may not be one of the founding powers of the Federation.
  • Denobulans and Denobula
It would be nice to see Phlox's home world and meet his extended family.
  • Stratos
Manny Coto talked about revisiting the cloud city from TOS. I'm not sure what kind of story they could do that wouldn't invalidate The Cloud Minders, but it would sure look cool seeing it with modern CGI.
  • Vulcan
Yes, a lot more of Vulcan and what happened after the new awakening under T'Pau. Then have Soval pop in again, and not just in specifically Vulcan stories.
  • Other TOS species
It would be nice for them to make contact with the Deltans, and that feline species that M'Ress from TAS belonged to, and that was seen in the background in some of the movies.
  • Starfleet
We need to see more Starfleet vessels out there so a couple of more NX-class ships should be commissioned, and other classes as well.
  • Earth
How is the political situation? Is Terra Prime truly dead? I think not. And what is the sentiment regarding aliens and the Coalition of Planets? How is UE governed anyway?
  • Mirror Universe
IaMD begs for a follow up. What happened to Mirror Tucker and T'Pol? Did Archer and Reed survive? Will Empress Sato manage to hold on to power?
  • Section 31 and Reed
Yeah, what are those guys up to? How involved is Malcolm?
  • Characters and relationships
Obviously TnT are an item. Their relationship not that much in the forefront but slowly evolving as the seasons pass.
Archer becomes a better and more seasoned Captain. He struggles with maintaining alliances.
Reed has an ambiguous relationship with Sec31, and he's also Trip's new best friend. He grows closer to Hoshi as well.
Hoshi should become more involved in missions. She goes on landing parties every time there are aliens and/or alien artifacts that needs her expertise. Her knowledge makes her help T'Pol in her scientific works, and the two grows to have the kind of friendship that was hinted at in early seasons.
Travis is getting more torn about his loyalties as the problems the Boomers are facing mounts. He might consider leaving Starfleet to help out.
Phlox is Phlox. I liked how he and T'Pol as the resident aliens were observing human behaviour and this should continue. And I've already mention a Denobulan story. Have him meet his friend Dr. Lucas again.
Oh, Reed, Hoshi and Travis get their long overdue promotions. And Starfleet gets a proper uniform instead of them all wearing jumpsuits.
Introduce a new character to command the MACOs on board.
She's got an awfully nice bum!
