Re: Randomness
Oy vy!
Kotik, I think what you wrote was funny but you have tried to project a persona that might actually go out and punch a late night partier or call a fat lady a hippo to her face. I tend to believe that you're joking most of the time but we don't know you in real life. When you write something that's a little over the top and someone calls you on it, they're not being politically correct, they're trying to figure out if you're really a nut case. Your response that you were trolling doesn't really improve the situation. When you go over the top, expect you might get called on it a bit. I think you were acting more touchy than anyone, to tell you the truth. If you're going to have sharp elbows, don't complain when one gets thrown your way.

Re: Randomness
Erm , there's a tiny difference between calling someone a hippo in my THOUGHTS and calling someone an asshole in a post. I'm certainly not squeemish, else I'd be bawling for Alelou being banned for ad-hominem attack, which I don't. Her getting all antsy over a pice of hillarity was way too funny for that. Trust me, I can take just as well as I dish out

She *asked* you if you were seriously going to call the lady a hippo to her face. Your reply said that you were trying to troll Alelou and succeeded and THEN she called you an asshole. And, frankly, I agreed with her. It was uncalled for. You could have simply said "No, of course not" and let it lie.

Seriously, now I'm getting pissed off. You didn't read the last posts, did you? What's wrong with you guys?
1) I did NOT write the hippo bit to troll Alelou! I just wrote it and afterwards realized "oops, someone's going to go apeshit over that one." I suspected Alelou would be the one and she did me the "courtesy" of making herself look like a complete tool. Not my fault.
2) Why would there be a need to "ask" if I would really call a woman such names to her face? Whgat do you guys think I am? Has someone asked John Cleese if he would goose-step and play mock-Hitler in front of a bunch of Germans? No, because people with half a brain knew that it wasn't meant seriously!
I hope this post contains enough offensive material to be really upset. At least it won't look contrived!

I'll be away for a few days until you guys're finished diddling yourself over having found something to take offense in. Good grief, and they say Germans have no sense of humour *facepalm*

Re: Randomness
I read EXACTLY what you wrote.
You didn't say "After I wrote it I thought someone might take offense." You wrote "I DID expect someone to object"
That's the definition of trolling. Now, what happened may have been different than what you wrote, but what you wrote was that you were trolling.
Sorry, but you're wrong.
And, sorry, but John Cleese was on a comedy show. You're on the Internet and in case you haven't noticed, there's no shortage of real nutcases running around. If you're going to play at being one, don't be surprised if every now and then someone asks "Seriously, you were kidding, right?"

Kotik, I certainly recognized that you were not REALLY going to call anyone a hippo, vertically challenged or not. And your post, taken as a whole, *was* rather amusing. (I'm not sure it rises to the level of hilarity though, but that's a separate discussion...)
As someone with a decidedly NON-standard sense of humor (to say the least), I've had my share of jokes fall flat. I'm sure you've experienced that awkward moment following the flawless delivery of your punchline, only to find everyone is staring at you with looks of horror or disgust. What I've learned is it's best not to dig in my heels and exclaim "Hey everyone, THAT was FUNNY!" No, a much better response is "I guess that wasn't all that funny. Sorry everyone, I don't REALLY put puppies into blenders. I'll shut up now."
What I'm trying to say (without pouring any more gasoline on the fire) is that 1) the hippo remark was really not that funny, and 2) your reaction to Alelou's question (which WAS funny) only makes it look like you can't take criticism, despite disclaimers to the contrary.
My advice? Repeat after me: "Sorry everyone, I don't REALLY put puppies into blenders."
There. Don't you feel better now?
Very funny, Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Maybe it wasn't "nobody expects the spanish inquisition"-funny, but I still think it's ridiculous that anyone even implies it could be meant seriously. In contrast to my post, that implication actually IS offending. I'll keep in mind that humour around here is not the best idea.

Re: Randomness
I think that it was not a bad idea, when I decided to sit on the sidelines.
Well yes. I continue to write. And on Fanfiction.Net, for those who want, it is possible to cast a glance at my latest efforts. We arrived to
The Ears of the Elves, chapter Forty-four
And here is the beginning of the whole story.

But, I must say, you could also find something else on Fanfiction.net written by me. If you want.

And now for something completely different...
I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay... (sing along everyone)
Hey Kotik,
Still awaiting the next installment of Selaya Hills 90210, now that's funny

Re: Randomness
Like Asso I should stay on the sidelines. However, I thought Kotiks post was funny. I believe I took it in the way Kotik meant it.
Lord knows most of us have stepped in horse pucky. It happens.
I certainly don't want Kotik to stop posting . I love his posts. Maybe I am weird too.
I am older than everyone here. I have seen just about all of it. Considering all of the smiling Cobras out there (Mean bastards who smile at you while cutting your throat) Kotik is a breath of fresh air.
Kotik, I wish you and I could sit down and try to drink the Flensburger Pilsner brewery dry or at least keep them working nights.

I am Retired. Having a good time IS my job

Re: Randomness
Silverbullet, Makin' you a promise ol' boy. Before the year ends, we'll be sitting on your porch sharing a good German brew
Just starting a new job, so I won't be granted any leave for the next two months, but the year doesn't end in August. I've always wanted to visit Americaland. I'll fulfill that dream before the year turns 2013.
Cheers

Re: Randomness
I found this one. http://titulky.trekdnes.cz/ The site's not in English, but if you click on ENT there's a listing of episode transcripts derived from closed captioning in English. Not as pretty or accurate as Chakoteya, but better than nothing.

Re: Randomness
There used to be a message on Chakoteya.net asking us not to download copies of it, but since the site has disappeared I no longer feel bound by that.
I've taken a copy of the Ent transcript pages from an internet archive - feel free to ask if you'd like a copy. I found Chakoteya's site very useful and it would be a shame for all that work to be lost to us.
