Re: Randomness
Thanks, weeble. I'll do my best to keep you guys posted. If you don't hear from me, though, no need to worry. My internet access is through the phone company, so if we lose service I may be incommunicado for a day or two. Just carry on. I'll be back.

I hope you wrote that while wearing a black leather jacket and sunglasses, with a pump-action shotgun slung over one shoulder.
Best of luck, anyway.

Kotik's Idiocy of the day.
Topic of my less than diplomatic thoughts at the moment is a company called STEAM. Yeah, exactly the stuff coming outta me bloody ears right now. What happened? Well me being away from home spending endless boring evenings in a hotel, I thought I buy me a computer game - Stronghold 3 to be precise. Box sayz I need to have a STEAM account to activate it. Ok, not problem, these days you have to create an account with some sleazy data merchant for taking a blood crap, so methinks, what are my junk email accounts for. Said, then done. Me creates account, game gets activated and then the thing springs a 4.3GB download at me.
Me checks DVD -> surprize 4.3GB of data on it. And since this hotel has the most useless wlan in history, which never makes it past 20 KB/sec that STEAM junk tells me that the download will take a mere 72 hours
Pardon my ignorance, but why does this bleedin' thing download the same crap that I just bought on a bloody DVD??? Heck, whatever these numbnuts've been smoking - I want some of that *facepalm*

Steam seem to have a policy of auto-updating your software, and it has probably been updated since the DVD was burned. Any possibility of getting it to install in offline mode?

I got it to install from DVD - get this:
I started the download and disrupted it by cutting the network connection. Then I selected 'delete local files' to delete what had already been downloaded. Then I killed the application via task manager, opened a cmd-window and started it with steam.exe -install d: then it hung a few times but the 5th attempt after 3 hours worked. How's that for a workaround

Seriously, the Fins are the coolest people in the world
I just came back from a two day business trip from Finland. Day before yesterday my colleague from Helsinki took me on a tour through the night-life. I noticed that most clubs in Finland have *very substantial* bouncers.
But my colleague reassured me that it wouldn't be a problem as long as I managed to memorize to say
Olen Hullu Saksalainen
Guess what, it worked. In fact many a bouncer was transformed into a rather amused mood. Asking my friend Google today, I now know why. I went all over Helsinki introducing myself by saying : "I'm a crazy German"

Hey Kotik,
At least you were accurate, and the Finns are obviously quite observant.....

Re: Randomness
That reminds me the time I visited a heavy metal night club in Tampere Finland. Now that was a night my liver got so confused about the alcohol I was drinking that I had the lightest hangover ever considering that the only types of alcohol I didn't drink was wine and champagne(I managed to empty the bar of its absinth)
