I saw that thing in the hardware story on Saturday - and I thought the same things:

1) That would be so great to have as a single woman.

2) Oh, man, it's ugly and would clutter up my counter.

Damn, I just hit 3,000 posts (this will be the 3,001st) and I'm still a Commodore. Guess I've another 1,000 to go before I achieve the coveted rank of Rear Admiral! :-p

Yep, but you have an exciting life KTR! I wish I could do some of the cool stuff you do instead of hanging here all the time. Not that I don't love it here. I'm guessing Rear Admiral is as high as you get. :dunno:

I think Elessar should just promote you to Rear Admiral. You've earned it!

Still sick with really bad migranes. I was hoping they'd stop. :(

I don't know how you can even read a computer screen with a migraine. If you're having a big cluster of them suddenly you should probably get checked out.

<sigh> I've been laying down all day because my eyes get fuzzy, but then I black out and when I wake up I can see again. My migranes are far from typical, and I've been in the hospital with them before. I just try to do what I can. I can't explain it, the best neurologists in the area where I live can't explain it. I'll just keep my mouth shut.

Well, as long as it's a pattern you're familiar with. I'm sure you know to get checked out if this is something new.

I figure it's about time we applied for passports before the fees hike up again, and so I filled out at least four screens at the state department until I got to the number of my last passport, which it insists is not valid no matter how I enter it, with the letter, without the letter, etc., etc. So there's no way to move on to the next screen, or to leave it blank, or anything, unless perhaps I lie and say I don't actually have my old passport, which just annoys me because then I also have to lie and say WHY I don't have it.

In other words, it was a total waste of time. Gah.

EEK! Sorry about that... Well you'd think I'd learn, I've lived here almost 7 years, it's summer, it always has torential downpours almost every afternoon. The come quick, dump a ton of water, then sunny until 10:00 PM. You'd think I'd learn to close the windows between 2-5PM. But no I forget, now EVERYTHING is drenched. Including me, and some very expensive reference books. I need a shower! :-x

I hate it when books get wet. In my house that's usually because I've knocked something over, though.

Reminds me that I need to test the supposed mildew removal stuff I bought at the co-op, since my normal go-to for that (bleach) would ruin my off-white curtains.)

I've still got a cold, which is really annoying at this point. For a couple of days it meant nice lying around, watching crap on TV, but now it's just getting in the way.

as if my day wouldn't be complete without this...

Someone approached me on Yahoo Messenger this morning, asking if I wrote fanfiction. I asked how they found me, and they said through one of the Trek Yahoo groups I belong to. So I said yean, and they asked me if I'd write a fic for them. I asked why they didn't want to write it themselves, and they said they're not a writer, so I asked what kind of fic they wanted. Turns out it was a real-person fic, involving an actress. Now, I don't like to get all freaked out and judgmental about what other people read and write, even when it isn't my kind of thing, but this is one area, to me, that crosses a line; celebrities have enough problems with crazed fans, and our fandom in particular draws a lot of people who have a hard time separating fantasy from reality. Not to mention, that kind of thing can get you sued faster than your regular not-for-profit fanfic, because celebs can use slander and libel laws against you, and then there's the whole stalker-y angle...

So I declined.

And the person--who, apparently, forgot he was asking me for a FAVOR--called me a jerk, and cussed me out when I told him there was no reason to get nasty about it.

You know...like I said, I hate it when people get judgmental about what other people read and write...but at the same time, if you're asking for a favor that's kind of out there, or you haven't done your homework, to find out what kind of writing someone does before you ask them for this kind of favor, one would think you'd have to be prepared to face a little bit of rejection, right??? And what's with the sense of entitlement?

Any way...I was just going to report the incident to the Yahoo group's listmoms and go on with my day, but when he messaged me back just to cuss me out, I clicked the "report spam" button on the messenger window. I haven't heard back form the listmom yet, but I'm assuming the person will be either warned or removed from the group.

That person sounds really creepy. That would upset me. I hope you don't hear from him again.

Wow. Adjusting the quote from the movie "The Truth About Cats and Dogs"...

"You can love the actor... you just can LOVE the actor"

I think the person's response after you rejected their request was just another sign of some mental instability there. We all have a rich fantasy life. But I think it crosses the line when a person's fantasy infringes upon someone else's reality.
