What Kind Of Jewelry Does A Guy Buy A Vulcan?

Would some art be personally and culturally offensive? Sure. Does that mean a Vulcan is idealogically banned from liking Jackson Pollack, or wearing a heart? No I personally don't think so. Spock loved many different artists and forms of art.

I don't think Vulcans would ideologically ban any form of art or aesthetics - unless it was violent or somehow otherwise truly offensive to them (say pornography) - but I think as a group they would prefer more logically oriented patterns. I don't think of it in the same way it is banned to show organic images in the Muslim world. It's just a preference. But - T'Pol was drawn to jazz because it is so chaotic - so individual Vulcan tastes would certainly vary, especially if said Vulcan spent a lot of time off world.

I still picture a Vulcan are exhibit to have very symmetrical and very balanced artwork. I also picture a Vulcan being able to quickly decipher hidden patterns in cubist art because they would be more attuned to them than a human.

Well I don't remember any particular symmetry in the Vulcan Jewelry I've seen it is very geometric. But I do think you have some great points.

You didn't get the list I came up with because it was completely tongue in cheek, WG. I was just riffing irreverently off the idea of logical aesthetics in Vulcan jewelry. I'm sure it's possible to get serious about the topic, but since I personally have no real interest in jewelry I just wouldn't be the one to do it. Jewelry, hair, clothing -- I only care about them to the extent they reveal something about someone's character or background, and more than a sentence or two about them will generally drive me right off.

I don't think it's an argument, Kotik. Every Vulcan would have their own taste. But since I do think that Vulcans would have a Vulcan rather than Human sense of aesthetics - it's an interesting topic. But I don't think anyone is saying they don't appreciate beauty. They do. That's been clear since TOS.

Although, I do someone like the idea that Vulcans would associate the color green with blood and how that would manifest in their culture differently. I doubt they would see green as a lucky color. Also, they wouldn't associate it with nature as much since Vulcan is a dessert. So, they might associate reds, pinks, magenta and sand colors with nature. Green with the body or/or with violence.

But would they see white or black as the absence of color? I think white, so they may associate that with purity just like humans.

According to my college color theory class, (back in the day when I was a 17 year old art history major) white isn't the absance of color, rather all the light waves in the color spectrum meld together, so that no one color light wave is reflected. Black is the absance of light therefore the absance of color. My teacher said this at least 30 times in every lecture, "Light is color, and color is light" it got annoying.

PS. Jazz is only externally chaotic, it's actually a set mathamatical equasion that an artis must stay with in. It's actually one of the most structured forms of music.

Don't get me started on white Thinking about T'Pol in that white desert uniform she wore in the Forge and I'm nursing a semi I think the most beautiful color on Vulcan would be red - reminiscent of the lava of the fireplanes. T'Pol in her red outfit when she droped the bomb on poor Trip was nothing short of spectacular. The scene was horse manure, but the color of her attire against the backdrop was epic

OK dearie I got mixed up. Her HOLOGRAM wore a lot of red and black on VOY! Satisfied. My sister gave me that hair cut the last time I saw her. I wanted to kill her. Thankfully my hair grows fast. Oh and her HOLOGRAM was decked out in a lot of bling!

It depends on if you're talking about pigment or light. In light, black is the absence of color/light, where white is the reflection of all.

In pigment, white is the absence of pigment, black is all mixed together.
